i just found out my neighbor is stealing electricity and we both share the same electric pole it has my meter on one side and his on the other side my question is my average electric bill is 171.00 a month but this month it is 426.00 dollars we have a center ac unit but we put a window unit in but we only use it like 1 week out of the month so is it possible that i am getting the bill for the electricity he is using? Because i really don't think that the window unit is pulling that much electricity.

When your neighbor is home and using power, shut off the main breaker in your house and go out to the meter. If there is no useage it will spin very slowly, but if he is using power from you, it will spin quickly.
If you are suspicious, contact your power provider and ask for a power analysis. They have instruments that can tell if power is being drawn from your side of the meter. They will also be able to tell you which appliances are drawing the most power in your home.

I once had a neighbor stealing electricity from me. I had some fun with him before turning him in to the power company. I would wait until they were in the shower ( you could see their sillouette in the window), I'd give them enough time to get soaped up and then pull my main breaker, shutting off their lights as well as the pump for the well.

Many years ago I found out how to attach jumpers from someone elses meter to save money. I havent done this in thirty years but you should be aware that it is possibe and highly illegal. Call your electricity provider and report your fears. They will have someone look at everything and deal with it accordingly., Many electricity providers also offer services review your home and make suggestions to help you save money.

It is quite possible that if he is stealing electricity, that he is stealing it from you but it doesn't make much sense that he would steal it from someone close who can tell instead of from the far away utility who probably cannot tell except to look at his bill.

You're right, your AC isn't pulling that much juice. You might want to get your power company to take a look. And have a nice long talk with your neighbor.

The elect. co. may have estimated the elec. usage. usually they do this periodically but then they will read the meter and re-adjust the bill accordingly if you are worried that your neighbor is stealing elect. call thee power co. and have them check the meters.

Since you are going to yhave to live with these people after the mess is sorted out, I hope that you will be gracious and kind. And I hope that HE is gracious and generous too. If not, you'll not be on speaking terms and that is always a shame.
