This was our first home and we didn't have a lot of stuff to fill a 4 bedroom home. So we told them that if they don't want to haul everything away we would love to keep it. We were expecting a few things but they left everything. We eat off of her dishes, drink out of her cups, and take showers with her shower curtain. I'm not bothered with it but sometimes I think about it. Would anybody be extremely bothered by it, or would you think it was a great deal.

Most people have to build up their wealth and sleep on the mattress on the floor, but we got 4 beds out of the deal.
Is it weird to sleep on her bed? We don't but we still the bed in the guest room.

Never knew her, but we know her name and heard good stories about her.

One day 3 months after she died a friend came looking for her, we had to tell them she died during an operation.

No, I don't think it is strange at all. Until the age of consumer credit began in the 1900s, most ordinary people could not afford to have all 'new' furniture and furnishings in their home.

They would inherit a piece of furniture from someone, another from someone else, and take good care of their things. That is why today there are some beautiful antiques which have been handed down over generations.

In my own family, there is furniture which has been in our family since the 1700s. That is very special, imo.

You were lucky to find a home full of good furniture and furnishings which you like and enjoy using. I'm sure the previous owner would prefer you get use and pleasure from her nice things (which she probably selected with care), rather than they be thrown out with the rubbish!

As time goes by and things need replacing, you will decide whether you wish to continue using the same types and styles of items as are now in the house ~ in one, two or ten years time you might feel like a complete makeover, or you may just enjoy what you have forever and a day.

In the meanwhile, please do go on using and enjoying all these wonderful things that create your new home ~ you are helping make the antiques of tomorrow :-)

Good luck and best wishes :-)

Was this person someone close to you? Sometimes people are comforted to have things around like that from someone that they loved. As long as you're comfortable with it, who cares. Consider it a blessing that you didn't have to save and buy all the stuff....and if you don't want it, you could have a garage sale and make some money!

She is probably happy...wherever she is...someone is benefitting from the use of her stuff. Better than seeing it junked in the dumpster.

Just don't go parading around the house in her underwear.

I wouldn't mind. I think it's a fine idea and I'd feel honoured to sort of... be a part of their history, you know?
