The best bang for the buck is the Gateway m7525 or 7515.
You can usually get these from ebay rather cheaply- depending whether you buy new or used- $500-$1000.

Dell would be a ripoff parts and service wise and same with Alienware or Voodoo.
A good company to consider is Carbonfrost Systems. I can speak from experience when I say they have the best warranty and service. They will literally build it to whatever you want while keeping the price low. They have computers in all price ranges so you should be able to find one.
For 1400 look at their Defender Mark I. It's a beast along with a 19" widescreen monitor and awesome speakers. The total package and the video card are really good which will be in SLI mode along. But yeah the whole is awesome along with their service and parts.

Computer teh advances so fast that youll want to spend as much as you can so that it will last as long as possible
that said a computer that is 3 years old is old
I build my own computers and build myself a new one every year
for you I would suggest going to a local mom and pop computer store and have them custom build you a gaming computer this way you will know that it is upgradeable with the retail parts.
If you buy a really expensive dell or hp or some other "cookie cutter" computer you will have to use thier parts witch are much more expensive.

You could build your own gaming pc, it would cost a heck of a lot less than buying a propriatary one like Alenware.
The advantage to a custom built PC is that upgrading one or two componets is always cheaper than a complete new system.
Check my site out, there is a article on building your own pc.

If I were you, I'd find someone to build one. Typically, most gaming computers are built by someone that someone knew. Then again, you could upgrade the old one with a bigger hard drive and memory. Try craigslist.com for your local city or ebay.com.

What your asking for is first of all a 30,000 dollar prime site.
The truth is that the gaming industry is located. They have
their simulation work and thats about all. Weather, news,
sports coverage, docmentary, and any television system is the
bad client. Yes you guessed it, tv stations use bully tactic to
gain control of advertisment city blocks. Just like communism.
So the kick in the right direction is the local clubs. People who
own, design or have some control of stations will welcome your
business. Gamers incidently are the 3rd highest source of
national defense in action. That's right it is ordained by God.
The actual way that ISP and game servers work is totally
in different servers. So you MUST decide who is available with
gaming in the top priority on your service. Some suggestions
include, gamevideo club, sims for families, computer contests,
and earthlink ISP for gamers. Peoples can help you if the
location is specifically difficult on gamers. By the way the high
budget loss every year in the national business weekly is the
gamers suits by unauthorized spies. So be aware, gaming is
monitored like you might discover a gold mine. Design of your
system should be compatible to the king gamer in your local
site, look on one of these sites for ideas.
