Okay i just found out my neighbor is stealing electricity and we both share the same electric pole it has my meter on one side and his on the other side my question is my average electric bill is 171.00 a month but this month it is 426.00 dollars we have a center ac unit but we put a window unit in but we only use it like 1 week out of the month so is it possible that i am getting the bill for the electricity he is using? Because i really don't think that the window unit is pulling that much electricity.

If that happened to me, I would call my electric company and ask them if perhaps there was an error on my bill, or if maybe there was something "wrong" with the meter. "Is there any chance my neighbor's electricity is somehow running through my meter? Could you have someone investigate this?"

The power company is in the best position to answer your question, and would likely be very willing to investigate. That is a crazy increase just for adding a window ac..... especially one that isn't used heavily.

Why do you think that your neighbor is stealing electricity? Anything is possible, but doesn't sound very likely.

If your average bill over the YEAR is $171 and it was 426 this month, that wouldn't be unusual since you use a lot more electricity in hot weather - not just your new window unit, but your central air unit also. My bill fluctuates that much easily between summer and winter.

If your average bill for the last few JUNE's has been $171 and this one is $426, that would sound strange, unless there's been a huge increase in the price per kwh. If you have your bill from last year at this same time, compare the two and see if they show that you USED twice as much electricity.

The other possibility is that your meter is defective. Call you electric company and ask them to check it if your usage this year is twice last year's. If you can't find your bill for last year, the electric company could probably provide the numbers.
