5x-12=3x+6
subtract 3x for both sides
2x - 12 = 6
add 12 for both sides
2x = 18

5x -12 = 3x + 6
we subtract 3x from the both sides
5x -12 -3x = 3x +6 - 3x
2x -12 = 6
we add 12 to the both sides
2x - 12 +12 = 6 + 12
2x = 18
we divide by two
x = 9
An other way ;
we send 3x to the other side
5x-12-3x =6...(notice we changed 33 into [ -3x]
2x -12 = 6
we send 12 to the other side
2x = 6 + 12 ( we also changed -12 to + 12)
2x = 18
x = 9

By "figure this out" I assume you mean solving for x.
You must remember that with an equation, if you do the same operation to both sides of the equation then you still have an equality.
In other words if you had the equation
8=8
and you subtracted 2 from both sides you would have
6=6
which is still true.
As long as you do exactly the same thing to both sides you preserve the equality
that is the basis for solving simple algebraic equations
5x-12=3x+6
to get all the "x"'s on one side so we can see a solution, I will subtract "3x" from each side leaving
2x-12=6
now to get all the non"x" numbers to the other side, I will add 12 to both sides leaving
2x=18
now I know what 2x equals, but to find what one x equals I will divide both sides by 2 leaving
x=9
voila!
to check the answer we can put a 9 in for every "x" in the original equation
5(9)-12=3(9)+6
45-12=27+6
33=33
and it checks. sweet.

Now for the 2d one the FOIL technique is layed out like this right it is an occasion (5x+12)(3x+2) F= first words in parenthsis (5x and 3x) O=outer words (5x and 2) I=inner words (12 and 3x) L=final words (12 and 2) so with that being reported lays out like this 15x^2 + 10x +36x +24 =800 now to set to 0 you're able to subtract 800 from the two sides and now evidently like 15x^2 + 10x + 36x + 24 - 800 or 15x^2 + 46x - 776 = 0 wish this facilitates

Subtract 3x from both sides to yield:
2x-12=6
Add 12 to the 6 to get
2x=18
Divide by 2 to produce:
x=9

move 3x to the other sid so its subtracted from 5x. then u get 2x-12=6
then u move 12 to the other side and since its -12 its added to the other side instead of subtracted so u get 2x=6+12
2x=18
divide 2 from the x and from the other side and u end up wit
x=9

There are 2 types of number here, a real number(12 and 6) and an unknown(5x and 3x)
These two types of numbers may be added together, thus we place the real numbers on the left side of the equation and the unknowns on the right.
We move 3x to the right and because of the transfer from one side of the equation to the other the positive 3x becomes a negative 3x. The same applies for the real number (-12) turning to a positive 12
5x-3x=6-12
2x=-6
x=-3
Hope this helps!

add 12 to both sides so you get:
5x=3x+18
minus 3x to both sides so you get:
2x=18
divide both sides by 2 and you end up with:
x=9
