I notice a lot of arguments on here about which is the better sport. Usually it's North and South Americans (like me) arguing for baseball, while most of the rest of the world argues for cricket.

My question is this - does our preference for one or the other depend entirely on where we grow up? If I grew up in England, would I prefer cricket? And would it work both ways? And does that say anything about either sport?

For the record, I did play cricket a little when I was younger and enjoyed it, just not as much as baseball, which was much more familiar to me.

I think you will fall in love with the sport that you are more exposed to. For us Indians, we don't understand baseball for the simple reason that it is not played in India and there used to be no media coverage of that. The only sport we care about is cricket, so we are more inclined to like and play that sport. The same is true with the North Americans who are used to watching and playing baseball and no cricket coverage for you to understand it.

I would have to say that it is a product of growing up where you can get familiar with that sport. Here in the U.S. kids learn Baseball when they are young but I have never played Cricket and I have no understanding of Cricket, how it is scored and what the general rules are. I think once you get used to one you do not have as much appreciation for the other, while they are both similar they are also different enough to confuse the lay man.

Baseball and Cricket are wonderfull sports. Since I have grown up in India, I would prefer watching Cricket over Baseball, but recently I have been keenly watching Barry Bonds trying to break the HR record. I guess the sport that is the better one is the one that you would prefer. It does not matter what others say.

If you want to judge the quality of a sport i.e u want to find which is better then go for the popularity factor! I think cricket is much more played and enjoyed then baseball throughout the world. The reasons being the variations in bowling, the complex rules etc Baseball is a simple game compared to cricket!

So, in my region americans play my sport "Cricket"
I teach them & make sure they understand the outline of cricket sport. Now there proud to play cricket & not play baseball anymore.
Thats why I feel like a hero in my region bc, I converted youths into playing cricket sport. .

Yes i think you are correct because the people that live in England and other countries in Europe don't play baseball because they have cricket teams, but the people in the US and Mexico play baseball because that is the sport that the majority of people play in they're respective countries.

Is there any country where both games are played.Only such country can give the right answer.
Though the way of playing both games have some similarity, the ground and other accessories are very different. So it appears both cannot flourish in the same country.
It is futile to compare both.
