Then why did they block Senator Webb's amendment to mandate minimum intervals at home for U.S. troops after deployment to Iraq or Afghanistan?

That doesn't sound like supporting the troops to me!

'Oh you just finished a tour in Iraq? That's great - I support you. Now get back there right now!'

Are all those 'support our troops' bumper stickers a joke?

Evidence also shows that they are sending kids back to Iraq who have PTSD!

Perhaps you can ask them why they gave tax-cuts to the rich while they cut VA Hospitals by $100 Billion in 2006!

Or tried to eliminate combat pay,

or cut widows benefits in 1/2.

Or are keeping them past their contract date and sending them back to Iraq!

Or have made Walter Reed, one of the finest hospitals in the world, into a laughing stock,

Or sent troops to Iraq without body armor,

Or let them be used as target practice for 4 years, commonly known as "Stay the Course",

Or why the military still does not have armored Hummers!

Most republicans support our troops because 90% of them are from the homes of Democrats and independants....it's easy to support the troops when it isn't your kids in harms way. They don't care that our troops are being deployed back to Iraq or Afghanistan before they get a chance to catch their breath or get to know their families again...much less wash their socks! It just doesn't affect them....

My friends son is currently serving his second tour in the middle east. He got hurt in Afghanistan and now he is in Iraq. They extended his current tour almost as soon as he got over there...he is frequently "unavailable" and we don't know where he is. Never mind the fact that he has three sons under the age of 8 here in the US. Never mind that he has spent about 30 days of the last year & 1/2 with them in the same country much less the same city. He loves being in the Army....but why should he or anyone else be stuck in the middle east fighting a war we can't win under a President that lies and doesn't care.

Good question. I would expect the drums for war were being beaten with such fervor, no body was asking questions. Asking questions a demanding accountability in those days was considered unpatriotic. Still is to some people. Those same people often paint with too wide a brush, forgetting that many of the troops (and their wives) *are* democrats. How does that work, if democrats "don't support the troops"?

The thing is; the war / Republicans don’t have support for the war in “Iraq” – most people are cool with Afghanistan, but can’t bring themselves to support profit taking, when the issue is/was to get the perpetrators of the 9/11 attacks.

We are now sending our border control agents to Iran to “secure” their borders… what a joke!

Unless “we” come up with a real plan to get out of Iraq, make peace with their people – our nation is doomed to the same fate that the U.S.S.R. succumbed to.

Because Webb's a Democrat and they don't want to change course--just yet.

See: The GOP has been "stay the course" these last 5 years--along with Bush--bullying the minority Democrats into submission and basically getting away with everything and anything.

Now that they are the minority, the PEOPLE have been screaming at the Democrats to CHANGE course, and the minority Republicans have done everything they can to stonewall and obstruct that change.

Because they think they still are in power, and secondly, they want this war to go on for decades--bigger military and defense contract profits for their lobbied constituents.

Supporting the troops means more than getting them home for a specific amount of time.

In my opinion, and having served in the military during 9/11, the Afghanistan war, and the Iraq war, supporting the troops means allowing them to finish the mission. The mission in this case, is Iraq. When I was on active duty, I watched as support for the War dwindled.

The last thing the military wants is to be ordered to retreat, leaving those the made the ultimate sacrifice to have died in vain.

President Bush already thanked the troops 100 times in advance!

That is still 25:1 for a fourth tour!

Heck, you must jest, the only support we the American people have done is take a tax cut. Of course we've passed (in the end) a couple of trillion bucks debt to our grand kids grand kids.

700 billion+ ongoing
500+ VA says to support shot up troops
500 billion rehab military equipment
who knows what other cost
+ of course 3500+ kids killed
all for nothing
Support?

Because apparently supporting the troops means "having them fight all of the time." because going into other countries and finding every single person who hates us is what they consider a strong defense

Probably because there were some unacceptable riding amendments on the bill in regards to policy and spending.

I wouldn't stretch a single fact like that. Making such assumptions doesn't reflect well upon your credibility.

Just do more homework next time and we'll be cool.
