I'm guessing that you do work at a computor and use a phone daily. That is tightening daily and actually builds the muscles up around the neck, arms and upper back. A professional massage therapist is good to go to at least twice a month.
Going to the beach is great, but you need to soak those muscles and remove the toxins that can be blocked in there. As a person whom suffers of this same problem, taking a epsom salt soak does both. To help you relax, burn a Lavender candle or better yet add lavender buds to your bath. If possible, have him to do your back rub with a Lavender, Eucalyptus or both massage oil. Not only does it work then, but the effects last a day or two.
Another thing, it's important that when he gives you a massage, the toxins have to be pushed out, meaning he needs to work from the neck with your arms to the sides, down the back, to the buttocks and out the legs and feet. Also, through the arms and out the hands. You need to drink at least 16 ounces of water afterwards to move those toxins out the body, the more water, the better. That's another reason the tightness stands is the toxins are being losen but not moved.
Get a massage handbook too. It gives tips and instruction on giving an effective massage or get a professional one done and have him watch so he can learn. Most therapist give support massage for $35 a couple, it's 45 mins long and you both benefit and have fun!
You can get the above things from my friend www.dandesoap.com. I didn't see them on the site just now, so go to the contact page and email her.

Can you hear this tiny little violin I'm playing honey? I wish to very soon ride a stallion. Now let's put my petty jealousy aside and talk about your legs...Yoga cross over stretches and stairs.

I suggest trying medical massage therapy. I know you said that you've tried massage, but did you have it done by a licensed massage therapist? If your boyfriend is not a licensed therapist then he really doesn't know what he is doing. Check your local yellow pages. Many of them practice out of Chiropractic offices or are affiliated with local hospitals/medical centers. Call the Better Business Bureau if you have any questions about legitimacy.

Acupuncture might help you, I have had similar issues with shoulder tension (carried a backpack that was too too heavy for way too long) and the only thing that ever helped me was regular acupuncture. Make sure you tell the therapist exactly what is bothering you and they will be able to help.

My first question would be why are your shoulder muscles being tense? It sounds like you do not have an accurate diagnosis. Is it frozen shoulder, a cervical problem, stress related?...it sounds like you don't have real answers from your doctors.

It sounds like you are looking for the magic solution, but without the time to investigate the problem.

I hear a lot of terms in your post that are suggestive of a highly emotional tie to your pain...listen to yourself as you say:
"I don't want to be taking pills everyday."
"I don't have time for physical therapy"
"I work 40 hours a week"
"anti-depressants to help with the stress thats causing the muscle to tense up."
"I don't have money to pay for them"
I can almost feel the stress on this side. If this is the true cause of your pain (and it can be) your really need to find some ways of stress management...avoiding caffiene and smoking, finding alternative ways to relax (not just on the weekends), behavioral modification. I cannot emphasize this enough. There are parts of your brain deal with emotion and pain regulation...and they communicate with each other...imbalance of one will lead to imbalance with another.

If you do get some real answers...frozen shoulder (not likely at 21), herniated cervical disc, etc...then you need to put in the time with PT as these things will not go away.

So first, I'd get a real diagnosis out of your doctor...and if he doesn't have one, find someone who will.

If it all comes down to stress...it's time for lifestyle changes...namely stress coping strategies. A cognitive behavior therapist can help with this. And yes...you are going to have to set aside the time for it.

Good luck
