See the reference for a start. Note a couple of clarifications in advance. Spirit and soul are more often used interchangeably more often than they are used to distinguish different things. The spirit of a man refers to the part of each person that is eternal and not material. The Spirit of God (the Holy Spirit) refers to a specific person (personality) of God. Each human has a spirit, but there is exactly one Holy Spirit.

Note that physics is a branch of science, which studies the material universe. It does not apply to the spirit.
