There must have been a "dinger" or buzzer of some sort and they are controlled by the switch that screws into the door jam where the front hinges hang the door.

What happens with some of the original switches is that they will freeze in the open position (from rust) meaning they are always off. The replacement switch has a plastic plunger on it and will not rust "open".

The switch is available at any GM dealer or you might find a replacement from a local auto parts store. This switch controls the buzzer and the interior lighting. The last one I replaced cost around $10.

Just remember that when you unscrew the old switch the wires will look twisted but when you screw the new one in, they will untwist.

I doubt that the buzzer was worn out but it may have been removed by a former owner who didn't like the noise. My best guess is the door jam switch.

Good Luck!
