Fawkes is Dumbledore's phoenix. Besides providing Mr. Olivander with two tail feathers for wands making (Voldemort and Harry's wands have these feathers as their core material), Fawkes has assisted Harry in the Chamber of Secrets by bringing him the sorting hat (from which Harry drew the Sword of Gryffindor) and poking out the basilisk's eyes. Fawkes also cried over Harry in the chamber, thus healing him of the basilisk venom and his wounds (phoenix tears have healing properties). He also carried Harry, Ron, Ginny, and Lockhart out of the chamber (phoenixes being able to lift more than their weight). Fawkes also fought with Dumbledore against Voldemort in the Ministry of Magic battle, taking a killing curse directed at Voldemort (but since he's a phoenix, the curse did not permanently kill him).

Fawkes is Dumbledore's pet phoenix. A phoenix has the powers to be reborn from its own ashes. Fawkes helped Harry out in the Chamber of Secrets by carrying the needed materials for Harry to defeat the Basilisk and healing Harry after he is wounded and poisoned by the Basilisk's venom. The phoenix feathers in Harry's and Voldemort's wands came from Fawkes. Fawkes also sacrificed himself in Book Five to save Dumbledore (He was reborn again after this.).

I see someone else gave you a Wikipedia page, but a brief summary - Fawkes is Dumbledore's amazing pet. As you know, he's a phoenix. Fawkes is not only symbolic, he fights the Basilisk, he saves Harry with his tears of healing (both in book two), he helps Harry with his tears of healing (book four), he helps Dumbledore escape the Ministry (book five), and he fights Voldemort and saves Dumbledore's life doing it (book five.)
EDIT: His tail also gave two feathers that went to Voldemort's and Harry's wands, which is what saved Harry's life in book four.

He brings Harry the Wizards cap in Chamber of secrets that has items in it that help Harry defeat the Basilisk. Fawkes gouges the basilisk's eyes out, blinding it and rendering its power of being able to kill with its gaze useless. Harry is later bitten by the basilisk and nearly dies from the venom, but Fawkes heals the wound with his tears. He then transports Harry, Ginny, Ron and Gilderoy Lockhart back to the castle.
Other than that I'd check out Wikipedia above- Fawkes does alot of different stuff that's just his first big appearance and deed. BTW- that's from Wikipedia.

fawks is a pheonix , ofcourse you know that, he played a major role in harry potter and the chamber of secrets. he was the one who helped harry deafet the alisk, the giant snake, and helped harry heal himself when he was poisened. the bird did this with his tear drops that have healing powers. he delivered the gryfindor sword to harry to kill the snake. and helped all the others that were trapped in the cave by lifting them out by flying. in the movie pheonixs can lift thousands of pounds.

Hi everyone, Im Joel from Bolivia and I have already seen the best Harry Potter movie yet. (Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix).
Here in La Paz Bolivia the premiere of this movie was the midnight of July 10 - 11. Meaning that the movie began at 00:01 a.m. of Wednesday July 11. It is great to see a movie here in Bolivia before anyone else in America. For you all to know, the time in Bolivia is the same ET in USA.
Im obviously, HAPPY and I have to say that it is a HUGE movie. The best moments for me were when Dumbledore escapes from his office with the help of Fawkes, I really liked Grawp and Kreacher. But I didn't like the things they changed from the books, for example in the movie Cho Chang is the one who reveals the location of the Dumbledore's Army practices and then Severus Snape says that Cho told the secret to Dolores because they gave her Veritaserum. Actually the movie is too short, you never get to See Ron's father in the hospital and in the department of Misteries you just get to see the Prophecies chamber and the Dead chamber and you never get to see the other chambers. But I really loved Luna, she is just like I imagined her. and you never get to see Fierenze in the movie.
And Sirius dies fast too, I mean there is not such a long battle and Bellatrix looks like a crazy woman more than a witch.
There are a lot of other cuts of the book, and I can say that I will be HARD to understand every second if you haven't read the book yet, because they want to give so much information in such a short time.
But after all It is a great movie, has a lot of action. I wish that they had included when Sirius is almost caught by Umbridge in the Gryffindor common room fireplace because you just see him talking trough the fire and just like a gosth, not like ashes (like previous movies)
There is no Quidditch match In which Gryffindor defeats Slytherin. And of course we never get to see Neither Gilderoy Lockhart in St. Mungo's nor Neville with his gran visiting his parents.
We never see Rita Skeeter writting for the Quibbler.
and of course I wish they didn't cut the part when McGonagall is stunned. but they did.... OUCH!!! of course everyone was expecting to see that.
Anyway is a good movie... See it as soon as you can.
bye

Fawkes is Dumbledore's Phoenix, and he saved his life in book five. He sacrificed himself to save Dumbledore from Voldemort in the big fight at the Ministry, and than was re-born from his own ashes.
