Re:Chalise post. So only low quality pets foods are the problem? How would you explain acetaminaphen recently found in Hills Science diet pet food then, that is considered a top premium brand. (source) www.petfoodrecallfacts.com , under "lab reports". NO commercial pet foods are safe made by these manufactures, even the fancy label so called "high quality" brands. Some of the small start up Mom & Pop co.s seem to be OK but I' haven't had time to research them yet.

Re China and melamine, it wasn't just melamine that caused the kidney crystals in pets, it was the combination of melamine and cyanuric acid that caused instant formation of crystals when tested that very closely resembled the ones found in pets. That cyanuric acid did NOT come from China, it came from the U.S./Canada pet food manufacturers. Cyanuric acid is used in swimming pools to retain chlorine, what is that doing in pet foods?, I'd like to hear the pet food industry answer that one. (so far I've heard they us it to spike the protien levels like China was doing with the melamine)

Re: Cameochis, The grocery and pet food industries are fighting the labeling requests with all their might, with good reason considering all they have to hide. They call it "racist", please!!!!, that term has been so over played out by now.

That's the least impressive, media-hyped news report I've ever seen on this subject, which is a very old one.

a) Everyone should know by now the sorts of things you're likely to find in low quality pet food. This news is as old as the news that McDonalds burgers contain hooves and eyelashes.

b) "Pet food is the inedible stuff...." Only the lousy stuff like Butchers, Pedigree Chum, Winalot, Caesar etc. I wouldn't feed these to my pet either.

c) Be discerning about what you feed your pet by all means - don't allow scare-mongering news reports like this to make you think all pet food is bad. There's a tremendous range out there, and pet food is not all bad any more than 'human food' is all bad.

I've heard it all before!

One of the good things that may come out of all this is that all companies will be required to put the country of origin on the can for all ingredients. Sure hope so. I've included some links to additional info as well. Scary stuff for sure!

exactly! - if you can please buy human quality food and cook it. If not dont buy generic pet foods. Us only high quality food which lists the ingrediants such as lamb and rice.
