I just hate it when people assume bad stuff of other people because of how they dress.

People 'assume' goths are suicidal because they seem so 'focused' on 'death' ... and I know that is a 'silly assumption' because I have some of the best conversations with goths ... they are usually 'more intelligent' and have a much better (if slightly 'weird') sense of humor than 'normal people.' I guess maybe I'm just a 'goth' in an 'old lady body' ...

Well yes, stereotypes are not good, nor correct nor kind. However stereotypes generally have an origination that does not necessarily support the stereotype however it gives it some background and here's the thing. First off-black is a negative color, black is the color of death, it is the color you wear to funerals and it is the color goths generally choose to wear. Secondly goths tend to put that stereotype upon themselves. I know that the goths I have encountered throughout my life have always drawn blood on their eyes, worn torn shoes talked about how much they hate life etc...Perhaps not every goth is like that, maybe some just like the clothes? But my understanding is that the goth outlook on life is pretty negative and I think it is the responsibility of goths (and you if you are one) to change that reputation if they feel it is not an appropriate one.

Everyone judges a book by it's cover, we don't all mean to do it, it just happens. I mean, I'm not racist at all, but once in a while I will meet someone and put a stereotype on them. It is purely accidental. You just meet so many bad people in the world we always assume the worst of people and not the best. That is just how society has made us.

Some times people think that when someone will not conform to societal standards, it is taken as a cry for help. Which sometimes is the case, but of course not always. I think Goth girls are so Hot

welcome to sterotypes. one or two goths actually did commit suicide, so people latched onto the clothes and music and said "thats why they did it"....when in reality a goth is no more likely to commit suicide than anyone else. its just like how emo kids are supposedly a bunch of whiney cutters, when i personally know many who are not whiney and wouldnt even dream of cutting. stereotypes suck, but unfortunatly every label has them. i dont mind labels because many of them do embody a lifestyle that is pretty cool. i just dont like the stereotypes that go with them. stereotypes have almost gotten my *** kicked because someone decided they didnt like something i supposedly did because of the way i dressed.

I just hate it when people who dress to look a certain get offended when other people view them for the image that they are trying to create with their dress. If you dress like a group known for depression, death metal and being antisocial your most likely going to be viewed as someone who is depressed, listens to death metal and is antisocial. So stop complaining about something that you have complete control of.

Goth people tend to dress in very dark clothes. That causes them to come across as very depressed...not that they nessesaraly are. I get where your coming from, but you have to admit first impressions arn't the greatest. Although there are alot of goth people who do commit scuicide...there are even more people that commit scuicide that arn't goth.

Because they confuse goths with Emos and alot of emo's are cutters,and people assume they are suicidal.

Because when you wear all black, you are putting a label on your forehead that makes many observers assume you are depressed (E.G. no colorful clothing).
People are just more comfortable assuming rather than finding out for themselves.
