i know people say "rutgers is ranked higher" but i'm just really turned off to rutgers because its so ridiculously close to home and i hate where i live (i'm a NY person, and i wanna go BACK! =] ) how is baruch for undergrad? i hear its reputation is really rising and my ultimate goal is going to NYU for gradschool...my plan is to do really well on my GMAT and in school and start working as a stock broker//consultant with my cousin's firm as soon as i'm 18 so hopefully i'll have a strong application...anyway yeah so i'm really considering baruch, and i know i'll efinately get in...what is your opinion of it? someone told me as far as academics go, its pretty much equal to rutgers, its just that rutgers is a state U so it gets higher rankings and all....please help!

I don't know anything about Baruch, but I will tell you that Rutgers is a very good school. Look into it if the distance is the only thing that irritates you. I don't think the distance should be that much of a factor, especially when you can get a good quality education.

I don't know much about Baruch, but as a Rutgers graduate, I can say that Rutgers is a pretty good school (better than a lot of people from in and around New Jersey give it credit for). It offers a very wide array of options, so pretty much whatever you want to do, you can do there. The classes are generally pretty rigorous (though it's also not hard to find the very easy classes). The problems with Rutgers are that they probably don't support students and students' progress as much as they should, there are some bureaucracy issues, and perhaps most damningly the state government's support for its "flagship university" is lacklustre at best. But all told, Rutgers is a good school where you can get a very good education (particularly if you try to get one), and I'm glad I went there and look back upon my days there fondly.

Hi,
I went to rutgers as an under grad and i now work in the top ranked consulting firm in the world (not as a consultant thought)...rutgers is a great school esp. if you like to party hard and it is also very well known throughout the US. When i went traveling to the midwest many people thought it was ivy league school, and rutgers was asked more then once to become ivy league. I would say dont be turned off going to rutgers becuase you live by it, its an awsome school. I was also thinking of going to NYU for grad school.

Rutgers is a great university. CUNY -- not so much. Only a fool would choose CUNY over Rutgers.

There are lots of good universities to go to that aren't far from NJ but are better than CUNY. Look at a web site like Princeton Review. They have a tool that allows you to enter information about your background and desires & it tells you what schools are a good fit.
