Chelsea v Inter filled an 81000 capacity stadium during a pre-season friendly, don't be so sure about the lack of popularity of the game in the USA. If the USA won the WC, I would be shocked out of my wits. Also, a lot of my friends will be set to lose bets! (make that all my friends). I mean, they have good players like Howard and Dempsey, but certainly not good enough to win the World Cup! They shocked Spain (and nearly Brazil) in the Confederations Cup but let's not get ahead of ourselves here. The quarterfinals would be a great achievement for them.
