How do I know when it's time to retile or regrout? We just moved in to a new place and the shower floor is very dirty (separate shower/tub). Can I get it looking new again? Should it be regrouted?

Bleach will not remove hard water deposits that may be on top of the mildew.
You need very good ventilation and/or a fan blowing in the bathroom. Then use Lime Away following directions.
If it still looks dirty, on a different day scrub the grout with a solution of two cups water and a cap full of chlorine bleach. Let it sit 15 minutes and rinse very well.
If their is a rust color remaining you can reseal your grout with a white sealant.
Then take out the caulking, clean and let dry completely then apply new caulking.
These two sites give good instruction.

Soak it in pure bleach then take a stiff scrub brush to it. Make sure you wear old clothes! Re-grouting is pretty simple though and the results are amazing. You just get this tool that you run along the grout line to get most of the grout off. Buy a can of ready made grout and lay it in there, smooth it out with a sponge and you will have fresh looking tile. Make sure to seal it with a grout sealer.

do you have white grout. if it's white just get a white grout polish and go over it. You can get it from many home improvement store. If you don't have white grout then the only thing you can do to do it right is regrout and after you regrout wait two to three weeks and then seal the grout really good.l You'll be fine

You can try a commercial cleaner, sometimes the dirt isn't to ingrained but, don't count on it.
If you want it real nice looking, re- grout. It's a laborious job but, that 's what has to be done. I would us a darker grout in these hard to clean areas. A dark brown, dark tan, something that doesn't show the dirt so well. Then seal it good according to instructions, that's a big factor, it will help the next time.

ON A SUNNY DAY when the sun is shinning in the window, open it and put some pure bleach on the tiles and soak the grout areas, let the flim of bleach dry with the sun rather then wiping it dry and watch the bleach do its bleaching action without much help.
afterwards, liquid silicone with tile & grout sealer and its good for another year.

´Well if you want to save a little money , then it´s a hand´s and knee job. I can suggest this. With Ajax or Vim cleaning powder, you can get it looking clean. Hot water and a scrubbing brush will make it clean .

Try cleaning it first. Get some diluted bleach and an old toothbrush and give it a good scrub. Always worked for me......
