My mom, who is a 3rd grade teacher, actually took a summer job as a tutor there once, and she says it's a good thing they have such good commercials because it's a bunch of crap and they actually do big fat nothing with those kids. She said she had to sit with a small group of kids and just do these really boring old-fashioned worksheets with multiple-choice comprehension questions and stuff, and that no real teching ever took place. She quit after about a week and a half because she couldn't take it. Don't send your kid there- find a tutor through your child's school. They usually have good people to recomend.

I haven't personally sent my son there because I am an educator. I have worked with special needs kids specifically LD kids. This is a question that parents have asked me. To be quite honest, it is an awful lot of money to be spending on kids that are already getting free extra help at school. A lot of the kids don't want to do the work anyway, so Sylvan just gets the money. So, when the parents ask me, I tell them to go ahead, but they would be wasting their money.
