im mainly interested in the incident with the USC football team and the investigation of the reggie bush controversy, but the reason i brought this question up is because of Oklahoma forfeiting their wins.

I'm guessing your talking about Oklahoma who was placed on probation. It means you screwed up! So the NCAA is going to watch everything you do very closely for a few years. I'm guessing that the NCAA could find something to cry about on almost every major college program in the country.

What you don't want is a bowl ban and losing scholarships!
I believe OU lost 2scholarships for 2 years. That is the real penalty, I guess somebody should make sure the "stud" recruits are actually EARNING a pay check instead of given money for doing nothing!

It depends on the violation but normally they lose scholarships for a period of years and have to forfeit games. Sometimes they can't appear on TV or can't appear in the post season. The most severe was teh SMU football program that was actually shut down and disbanded for a few years.
