Being that Virginia was a confederate state, is there still disharmony between the African American and White communities in Virginia or the Virginia Beach area?

I went to grad school there, I didn't really have any problems. It wasn't like Mississippi (which I've been to a few times). I take it back, I had problems from a fellow black person because I was out with an East Indian woman.

PS I went to Regent Univ. (of CBN fame) and I had friends who went to Rock Church (the sr. pastors are hispanic and it's a mixed church)...

I live in Virginia Beach, and I can tell you that it is probably one of the most racially integrated cities in the US, if not the South.
As there are a lot of military personnel here and the military is very integrated, the racial climate here is very harmonious.
Among the various high-profile Christian ministries here, however, there is still racism among the ranks. I have heard people, even in this day and age, refer to rock music as "race music," because the beat came from "deepest, darkest Africa."
So, as long as you stay away from CBN and Rock Church and the other high-profile ministries, you will be fine.

Everything is fine now. The civil war ended 142 years ago, even though many southerners refuse to accept or understand it. Also there are no longer many cavemen or dinosaurs in Virginia either.
