If its brick you can paint over it with Masonry paint. They have a few colors to chose from. Brick is very popular so I wouldn't change it if your planning to sell the house ever but its up to you. Maybe paint it like a sand color so it looks like stucco. You can also paint it with stucco to give it a totally different look

Try a test spot of acid on a brick. If the bricks are dirty it will clean them and make them lighter. If they are faded it will strip them and make them darker. Muriatic acid is what I use, but be careful, and do it in a well ventilated area.

Your brick is a big asset to your house. If you mess it up you will de-value the place. You can clean it. You can have a mason put new colored mortar on, such as black. Or you could focus on the trim instead.
