I'm going to have to say no as well.
Don't get me wrong Verlander is unreal on those night he has it going (No hitter Milwaukee!) But to get either 7 no hitters or 5000+ K's you need incredible endurance! Ryan used to k 300+ a season I don't see many guys getting very close to that lately (Verlander on pace for 194!?) (league leader has 149)
Add to the fact that the Tigers can actually score so Verlander won't be called on to dominate every time out. Ryan played on some rather sorry teams and needed him to give up 1 or 2 runs only to win.
Pitchers just aren't asked to do what the old guys were asked complete games, start every 4th day (now 5). Now days you get through the 7th and most teams are thrilled! Bringing the setup guy and closer and go home.

Yes it can happen. Verlander already threw a no hitter and was rookie of the year last year. He was still throwin in the 100s during the 9th inning of his no hitter. His blazing fastball and his sick curve are among the best in the game. In the long run I think he can be the next Nolan Ryan. I think he threw his first no hitter when he was about 12 or 13 years old. Pretty impressive.

once you assert something like "i wish he under no circumstances performs for the Yankees," you lose any and all respectability. What does that would desire to do with something? Non Yankee followers spend way too lots time complaining related to the Yankees. It would desire to be an extremely complicated existence. That reported, no, you are able to no longer learn careers till careers are performed. Verlander is having a best twelve months. Ryan's 7 no hitters and strike out comprehensive are a tad out of attain at this factor for Verlander. That reported, there are lots of people who think of Ryan replaced into no longer that great. he's purely some .500 pitcher. on account that being a great pitcher has something to do with triumphing, he's probably no longer as "great" as his no hitters may lead on you to have faith. an argument in his desire is that he generally performed on some extraordinarily undesirable communities, and that would desire to account for the W/L checklist. the two way, you are able to no longer positioned Verlander interior the class of any great pitcher till he has a bigger pattern of success. He does no longer be the 1st guy to have a great season and fall back into mediocrity the subsequent season.

He's actually a lot more consistant at this point in his career than Ryan was. Ryan was close to a .500 pitcher most of his career. Not all his fault, because he played for some lousy teams, but he also had lousy control. In the end, though, very few pitchers have ever been or ever will be as dominant for as long as Ryan was.

Verlander better learn how to walk more batters if he wants to be in the same class as Nolan Ryan. Christ, he only walked 60 batters last year, that's not even close the 100 walks per year that Ryan averaged.

JV does have nasty stuff. I don't know if he'll have the longevity though. Pitchers like Nolan Ryan and Roger Clemens don't have to get cute with their pitches. They have the express train and the nasty change. Both pitches look the same coming out of the hand.

No. it is too early to tell with him. Give him a few more years to settle in and let's how good he really is. How can anybody take a pitcher in his second year and compare him to one of the greatest pitchers of all time?
