He was a second or third cousin of Teddy R.
His polio did cripple him, but he continued to swim and recovered somewhat from the illness. His drinking was a serious problem.

Most likely Roosevelt contracted Guillain-Barre' Disease, not polio. They did think it was polio at the time (1926)
