It may be a bacterial infection. If it is, you should try to get some fish medicine at the pet store and use that to disinfect your tank. What other fish are in the tank? If the other fish are healthy, it was probably bacteria. Go get the medication ASAP. Good luck saving the fish!

It's really not possible to give you an accurate answer without more info, but maybe this will help get started. First, have you been testing your water conditions at all, for ammonia/nitrates? Either if these could be a problem.
Would help to know what size tank you have and what kind of water maintenance you do, what other fish you have and how many, what temperature the water is, if anything has changed lately like adding new fish, big water changes, or no water changes.

Do not medicate your fish tank without knowing what's wrong, because mis-medicating will only stress out the fish. Even medication when they need it is stressful to them, so don't subject them to it if you don't have to. There are some general things you can do, like changing some of the water, or adding salt (depending on what fish you have), to help ease your fish a bit, though.

Some more information is needed here to give you an accurate answer. How long did you have these fish? What size tank where they in? Do you have a filter and/or heater? What were the water conditions (any of the folling that you're able to give: temperature, pH, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and additives that you use)? Did they have any tankmates (please provide number and species)? There's a pencil icon under your question that you can use to "add details" to this question.

Sounds like amonia poisoning. When was your last water change and have you checked the amonia level in the tank? when you moved the fish into the bowl and he started looking better was the bowl filled with new water or water from the aquarium the fish were in? If it was filled with new water than most likely something with the water in your aquarium is what caused it.
