When I bought my laptop, it said it had a DVD-+RW/CD-+RW drive with dual-layer and all that stuff. Now I'm trying to burn a DVD for the first time and it says that it's not a recordable drive. I have the laptop for about 2 years and I keep it well maintenanced. HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4244N is the drive model or what not. I have download an update to the firlmware. I use Sonic MyDVD to burn it. What can i do to burn my movie.

That drive can read CDs and DVDs but can only write CDs, it can not write DVDs.

If it reads DVD then that is a start, try burning a normal CD to make sure that it is burning anything, also a good idea is to get a CD lens cleaner and run that through, can make a bit difference sometimes.

Was the firmware the right version? I guess you updated it after you found it wasnt working.

Try Nero or Roxio burning softwares. If it does not work, something is wrong with the drive.

Strange, is it a proper disc? It might be the make of the DVD that's messing it up.

It probably the drive is defective, you need to bring it back to the store or the manufacture.
