Absolutely. They have proven themselves to be empty suits who do nothing but incessantly gripe about Bush. The negativity is wearing down their constituents. They just do not know when to stop whipping the horse and when to stop promising what they cannot deliver.

The general public has something on you, and that's critical thinking abilities. The public understands the workings of Congress enough to know that there is not a critical mass of Democrats to counter the various institutional thresholds (e.g. veto override threshold). However, the public is happy knowing that by holding the simple majority in each chamber, the Democrats set the agenda of debate such that the Bush White House is forced to acknowledge at least a modicum of the checks and balances entailed in the three-branches structure.

In other words, the Dems don't have to deliver anything - they simply have to hold a majority such that the Republicans can't do any more damage than they did when they were the majority. That's all the American people require right now.

Oh snap! You're bubble's burst!

I think they're testing the waters right now. My guess is they're worried of a public backlash if they attack the President too hard. Plus, they're just trying to get some Republicans to see how favorable it would be for them to join the democrats. Don't forget, two years is a century in politics. A lot of things can happen. The scandals of today can be buried four times and replaced by new ones by then.

I'm just going out on a limb here, but I don't think Bush will survive unscathed. He may actually be forced to resign.

Lets hope not! Americans have been being bounced back & forth between THE demo/repubie politicians(magicians!) for ever. I'd shoot for Ron Paul & Libertarian representation for sure. We DON'T need more of the same yo yo tactics & good guy/bad guy routine in American government anymore!

With Bush's low approval ratings and the fact that Congress is almost half Republican and the Iraq war lost at a cost of 2 trillion dollars, it will definitely be a Democratic sweep in November 2008.

See ya, wouldn't want to be ya!

Republicans controlled both houses of Congress since 1994 (with a very short break in the Senate). Since 2001 they have controlled every single aspect of government. During their tenure absolutely nothing got done except the worst foreign policy disaster in our history.

The Democrats have controlled Congress for 6 months, and their majorities are not veto- or filibuster-proof. In that time they have increased the minimum wage, increased veteran benefits, and begun to investigate the corruption and cronyism of the Bush administration.

The main flaw of the Democrats is that htey allow themselves to continue to be defined by Republicans. Do nothing Congress? Who is kidding who? It will take decades to undo the damage caused to our country by Bush and his sycophantic sheep in Congress.

Honestly, it depends on who can put up a presidential nominee that can genuinely communicate his plans for a truly better America, AND which party pisses people of the least. Americans are mad about crooked politicians on both sides and are ready for a change. We all just hope it comes from the side that we stand on politically.

I believe that that change will eventually come from the republican side once it moves back towards its conservative base. The liberal side offers change in a frightening direction of immense government power and further elimination of general freedoms.

Extremely doubtful. Want put money on that?

Do you even understand the rules of the senate -- the republicans can stop any legislation they want to because of the 60 vote rule.

John, I thnk it will, maye the Libertarians stand to gain a seat or two, but the democrats have broken all their promises, all of them! The GOP may not say what someone wants to hear, but they keep their word. Its more than the war which is at issue and the democrats have no solutions only finger pointing and Bush bashing, they haven't thought gee no one from the Bush adminstration is running in 08
