He is the coolest thing I ever saw! seems very hyper and mucho in love with the loach. I have never seen one before and wonder if i could find him a girlfriend. I have named him Dave.
He shares a tank with a mated pair of angels, a butterfly fish, & his loachy bum chum. he may not actually be a he, but how do I tell?
It is a 2 ft ish tank so loads of room for more fishies.
Suggestions on a postcard please?...

Rhia how dumb are you? I said I acquired the fishes, I didnt just go out and buy them. I have worked in animal welfare for the last 15 years and would never be so naive as to assume I could look after any animal without due research and knowledge from more experienced owners/breeders/rescuers than myself.
Stop jumping to conclusions before taking the time to actually READ through the question first.

Actually the previous owner has kept them all together for over 2 years and the frog has grown no more than about an inch square, he eats smaller fish than him but doesnt pick on bigger beasts apparantly. The angels are only about 2.5 inches tall includung fins and all others less than that so the tank is plenty big enough. I am in UK btw and don't know of any laws against frogs over here...

Congrats on the new fish! You will want to find a new home for the frog, just as the others said, it will eat your fish as it matures. They are illegal in California because they have taken over lakes and ponds and wiped out entire fish populations. Your frog is an African Clawed frog. I know this because there are no albino dwarfs on the market. He is probably "friends" with the loach in the same way Elmer Fudd was always inviting Buggs to dinner, warming up to him until it is dinner time. I would keep the fish, and take the frog to a pet store as a "donation". You might even get a bit of store credit to go towards chemicals or food.

GET IT OUT NOW!!! Albino frogs are African Clawed Frogs. They will grow large enough to eat your fish (including the angels!!) The size of your tank isn't really big enough. Go onto this website and click on the community creator, you put in the dimensions of your tank, level of filtration and existing fish and it will tell you of the problems you will face.

But seriously, get the frog out ASAP. If you want to keep frogs with fish get an African Dwarf Frog. They don't grow above 3cm and are NEVER albino and are great to keep with fish!!

a 2ft tank is really not that big for the fish you have, in fact it's kind of small. it may look like theres a lot of room but the fish you have are large fish and aggressive/territorial fish. if you want more I'd upgrade to a nice sized 3ft tank at least.

as for the frog, is it a an african dwarf frog or african clawed frog?

yea the xenopus frogs (Xenopus Laevis) are a completly predatory animal, i have known them clear tanks by the time they are full grown. i know someone what started with a community tank, and added a red tailed black shark, and a xenopus frog. their own fish started to dissapear one by one. and they assume it was the red tailed shark, after all they are notoriously nasty, eventaully their tank was emptied one by one, until there was just this frog.. and this shark left... they kinda found out who the culprit was when they woke up the following morning and the sharks tail was hanging out the mouth of the frog.

just be careful that he isnt just sizing up mr loach for his breakfast. ideally this animal needs to be house on his own, by the time he gets full grown (6 inches) he will eat most things in his sight.

as for how to sex them,

"The male frogs
have dark coloured stripes under the insides of their forearms
called Nuptial pads, these are used to grasp the female
during mating. The females have a small tail between their
hind legs this is to deposite the eggs. The males also vocalise
often during the breeding season."

The frog is called an African Clawed Frog. They are predators and completely illegal in california. In Louisiana, where I live, you cant own or buy them without a permit.

These frogs grow very big and need at least 5 gallons of water per frog. They also eat anything they can fit in their mouth.

Its not dumb at all to "acquire" fishies, thats how I got my convict fish. And just like me, you are wondering about the care and all things new about these little creatures.

Watch out for the Angels. He might be okay because of his bottom dwelling habits, but they might try to eat him.

Rhia, the dumbest thing you can do is try to answer a question when you ignore what the question says.

All sound a little eclectic to me,
I didn't realise it was that easy to mix amphibians with with sea fish.
