10% is 10 out of 100 or 100/10
160/10 = 16

Anything divided by 10 is a simple movement of the decimal point one space. 160.0 becomes 16.00

So if something costs 160 and is 10% off it would cost $144.

an easy trick for you... when you have to find 10% of something do this:

160.0

now move the decimal one place to the left

16.00

drop the zeros after the decimal, leave em if they are numbers other than zero

16

so if you want to find ten percent OFF.. like a coat costs 160 and its 10% off, take the total

160
and subtract the ten percent

160 - 16 = 144

so the cost of the coat after the discount would be 144 dollars

now, just so you know the way it works, without the decimal trick, you take

160

and multiply by

.10

when its 10%

you drop the % and move the decimal two places to the left

so 160 x .10 = 16

and thats how it works!

good luck

easy the best way to calculate this is by putting it in decimal form such as 10%=.1. then u plug it in to what ever the beggining price, in ur situation its 160. then u multiply .1 by 160 and u get 16 if u want to now the after price, after the discount u subtract the answer u got to the begining price which is (160-16)144.
10%=.1, 160x.1=16, 160-16=144, tada

There is an important difference between a percentage OF and a percent OFF that many people in this thread have ignored.

To find 10 percent OF 160 you simply multiply by 10/100.

10/100 = 0.1
160*0.1=16

To find 10 pecent OFF 160 you times by (100-10)/100
(100-10)/100 = 0.9
160*0.1 = 144

You could also find ten pecent OFF, that is 16, and take it away.

160-16 = 144.
