they have nothing else on you not even license, name, or anything. How long do the cops work on a shoplifting case until they just quit the case?

are you a little guilty of something? lol...I guess it just depends on how many cases they have, and which ones are more important.

Depends on if the cops have better things to do. Which they probably do.
The store on the other hand has probably given your photo to all the other stores in the area and when someone at that store or another store sees you then you will get nailed.
