I have sbc yahoo dsl, with the old wired home portal. i just bought a linksys router (wrt54gl) and was trying to install it. i almost got through the setup but at the last step, it couldnt detect an internet connection. after trying everything i could think of, i gave up and disconnected the router to go back to the 2wire modem. the only problem is that now it's not working either! all the lights are green except for the broadband link, which is solid orange (not blinking). i know it means that there's dsl, it just can't connect to the isp. i made sure to reconnect all the wires correctly, i powercycled it, tried restarting everything but it hasn't worked. i'm pretty sure i changed internal settings while trying to setup the router, so i thought i'd reinstall the sbc software. The only problem is i can't find the sbc cd! is there anyway i can fix the modem without the cd? can i download the cd image from anywhere? it's a pain especially since sbc yahoo dsl is now at&t dsl. help??

I'd like to fix this without spending any more money - I'm already regretting the linksys router. I'm good with instructions, I just need someone to help me out with exactly what could've gotten changed in the settings

This usually is a PPoE issue in that you have not validated your username and password with SBC.. If it were me the easiest way is to set your router back into the system, be sure on the WAN / Internet settings where it says, DHCP/STATIC etc to select PPoE for the setting. Once that is done enter your username and password in the blocks that appear for that. With SBC you username is your email address and your password like myname@sbcgloabal.net for the user and your password.. (These were setup when you originally setup the 2wire using the software.)

Normally that software stays on your PC unless you erase it so you can just look and see if it is still in your programs list if you don't want to enable the router!.

You can setup a manual ppoe "dialer" in your PC if you have too.. Just call SBC support for help to do that.

Have you looked on the 2-wire site under the support tab. Don;t remember, may be able to take it out and plug the Linksys in to the connection directly. Been a while since I dealt with SBC.

2Wire sux. I have several customers that have a 2Wire modem and it causes nothing but problems. Get SBC to send you a different one. You may have to buy a combination modem/wireless router, but it is totally worth it. I can't tell you how many headaches I got form these 2Wire setups before we helped our customers replace them. Since they've replaced them, I haven't had 1 tech support call about their wireless.
