You do not have to live in Dallas County to be on the squad! My opinion would be the Mid-Cities area. Hurst, Euless, Bedford. It is very convienent to most highways in which you would need to travel. Its an established area, so the price to live is reasonable. I wouldnt consider the schools to be the best, as I grew up in the area, and I quite honestly would not want to send my kids to most of the Junior Highs in the area The HS are not so bad. That is an important aspect in which I know your aware of, so that being said I would think possibly the Grapevine, Keller area. SOme areas can be reasonable but sometimes costly at the same time. Everything west of Ft Worth is on the rise, and for new housing developments are going up everywhere and I honestly find the cost to be decent. Brand new homes for good prices are hard to beat! You will find Texas to be much more reasonable then most states for housing costs. Also those PD departments would also be adding more personel as they grow into larger areas! I would select a place in which you are semi-close to in your work as I cant stand the traffic, and people here and Texas just can not seem to handle traffic well! The other cities listed are nice, such as Frisco, Carrolton, Allen, Mckinney and Plano, but I would find those to be a bit more costly! Hey though, I am a border line minimum wage Airline employee, HAHA so price is key! Best of luck to yourself and that family! Also, THANK YOU for your service, my Bro-In law also serves! Good luck!

Hurst-Euless-Bedford...it has some of the best schools in the DFW area. And its 30 mintues from everything.
Its only 10 minutes from DFW airport, 15 minutes to Ft Worth, and 20 mintutes from downtown Dallas.
In fact L.D. Bell has the best band in the country and is and IB school, and Trinity won the football state championships last year.
Everyones friendly and it low crime. It feels like a small town within the big cities.
They're constanly building new affordable houses that are very close to schools. Last time I counted they had 18 elementary schools, 5 jr highs, and very big high schools. And the have some wonderful law enforcement...the cops in Dallas are kind of crooked if you know what I mean.

No, as far as I know you don't have to live in Dallas County to work for DPD. Carrollton schools are good. The city is almost built out but if you don't mind living in a used home. Collin County (Plano, McKinney, Frisco, Allen, etc) is the fastest growing couty in Texas. They also have good school districts. That's where most people are moving. You can find a reasonable deal in McKinney and Allen, but it's further out from the city. If you are looking for a new home you are going to have live further out in one of the suburbs, which is usually what most people do here anyway. Plano ISD is good, but the city is almost built out too.

Grapevine! In this time of home sales slowing down, here in Grapevine we still have a booming market (houses in our neighborhood have been on the market for about 5 days to 2 weeks, that should say something right there!) Lots of great recreation options (21 miles of *paved* hike/bike trails within the city limits, right next to a lake... a historic main street district with lots of shopping (antiques etc), top ranked schools (Grapevine high is consistently in the top 100 US high schools), and Grapevine is smack in the middle of the metroplex so you can get anywhere in a short amount of time.

My boyfriend and I are in our mid-twenties and we just bought a house in Carrollton and we LOVE the area. It would be perfect to raise a family in. There are parks and recreation centers and good schools. It is a lot closer to the metroplex than Frisco, Allen, or McKinney, and has easy access to major roads. Also, it is just north of Addison which is a fun and trendy area with lots of restaurants and bars.

Frisco/Plano/Richardson very family friendly...great schools...
If you have to live in Dallas county, I would suggest Addison or North Dallas...off of 635 and Midway area...However, Dallas public schools are terrible...so, you would need to send kids to private school if living in Dallas county....however, Dallas has very renowned private schools...but, very costly.
I would say be very careful of the suburbs you choose...each area of Dallas has a distinctive character...the North suburbs of Plano/Frisco/Richardson are educated, professional families....same with Coppell and parts of Grapevine...
Fort Worth is nice with small town charm, but with some ammenities of a large city.
Many other suburbs of Dallas are very red-neck or have a large community of non-English speaking people...and unless you are a bubba...or prefer to live where English is not primarily spoken...I would suggest looking at one of the towns I mentioned.
Best of luck to you.

carrollton, plano and richardson are the best of the cities in the dallas/ft worth area.. all three are right next to each other and within the top 20 nationwide.
plano can be pricy but otherwise..
i like carrollton the most though.. its just north of dallas, and close to all the major airports in dallas/ft worth, and has extremly easy access to interstates/toll roads no matter what part of the city your in so you can easily get from one place to another.

Garland has a lot of good facilities and the area just west of DFW airport seems good.
Depending on where you get a job and residency requirements, I strongly recommend looking at the location of the existing and under construction DART rail lines and connecting bus service - they are very good downtown and generally good all over.

mansfield, tx it is south of arlington and 25 minutes from fort worth. Mansfield ISD has great schools. Great daycares and churches. I am a mom of a 3 yr old and 7 month old. You are far away from the crime but close enough to get to the fort worth zoo, ranger ballpark, cowboy stadium, american airlines center (concerts), in 30 minutes.

My high school teacher lived in our town and her husband worked for DPD, and we don't live in Dallas county, so I would say no.
