In my opinion, Harvard, Princeton Yale, Stanford, Chicago, Duke.
I know that is six -- but there you have it.
If you are interested in a given specialty, then the list changes. For example, if you were interested in Engineering -- then my list would be MIT, Cal Tech, UC-Berkeley, Stanford and -- well, maybe Michigan.
If you were interested in design -- then I'd say Rhode Island School of Design.
If you were interested in being a career military officer, I'd say The Miliary Academy, The Naval Academy, The Air Force Academy and The Coast Guard Academy.
If you only wanted public universities, I'd say University of California at Berkeley, University of Michigan, University of Virginia, University of North Carolina and Georgia Tech.
If you were only interested in Community Colleges, I'd probably just laugh at you for asking.

and some other ones

1. University of Michigan - perfect balance of everything....
I don't know a lot about other ones, I just applied and got in and didn't worry about it, but from what I've seen other good universities that I would consider going to would be:
University of Virginia
University of California Berkeley
Princeton
Princeton has really bad sports, but the academics are ok and they have this place called hoagie haven that's worth the hype.
