You have got to be kidding me.
You realize that there are few American historical figures that have done more good for more people than Dr. King...
And he wasn't just peaceful, he did something to change the way things are, instead of just sitting around and complaining about it.
And I quote:
"We shall have to repent in this generation, not so much for the evil deeds of the wicked people, but for the appalling silence of the good people." - Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Dr. King did more for civil rights than Bob Marley, besides, Marley was Jamaican, why would the US give a holiday to a non US citizen? I'm not saying Marley's music didn't have a profound impact on the world, but come on, Dr. King is more important in any history book.

Martin Luther King Lost his life in that belief that all men, ALL Men! are created equal. He was a true American and is worthy of the Holiday. Unfortunately some of his followers (Jessie Jackson, Al Sharpton) have tainted this man's great legacy with their selfish and greedy acts and their want of racial inequality so that they may continue to live the good life.
Martin Luther King was a Great American it is right to honor his memory with a Holiday

Bob Marley did not spearhead the civil rights movement that had a direct and profound impact on how our society treats minorities and prosecutes discrimination. He also was not assassinated for his role in creating a more peaceful, diverse, and just civilization. Being peaceful is not the key. Having a significant impact on how society is governed is. MLK changed history. Bob Marley just sang some songs.

Bob Marley was a musician. Martin Luther King Jr. was one of the main leaders of the civil rights movement. He wasn't just peaceful. It is very much because of him taht African Americans have equal rights today. He was also winner of the Nobel Peace Prize. I am a Bob Marley fan, too but the two of them cannot be compared.

Well, Martin Luther King did found Protestantism, and a lot of people seem to enjoy that, so I guess that counts for something, but I agree that doesn't warrant a public holiday. =P
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., however, was a major civil rights leader, and provided a peaceful and uplifting focal point to a serious struggle that changed the lives of thousands, if not millions, of Americans. So that's a pretty good reason to celebrate.

Did you go to school? MLK is honored becuse he fought for equal rights for blacks in america. Like the basic privelideges white folks took for granted, like voting in an election without getting lynched, being able to sit and be served at a lunch counter, being able to buy a home if you could afford it, not having to go to inferior segregated schools,etc............ And instead of being really pissed and resorting to violence for these inequalities, he encouraged his supporters to use non-violent protest to achieve these goals. His campaign contributed to the Civil Rights Act of 1964. America is a better place today because it is much more a symbol of true freedom and equality. So give the man his props! Bob Marley takes every day off getting high, so he doesn't need a holiday!

I'm just answering this question to get the 2 points.
I can't believe ANYONE would have the audacity to question MLK Day. He did a lot to bring all nationalities together. Even through a time where blacks and whites were at odds, he still dreamed of a day when EVERYONE could be happy and united.
Bob Marley did NOTHING for the well being of ANYONE! Not even his kids.

Bob Marley does have a holiday. April 20. Plus many of his fans take a moment every afternoon....
Seriously, were you trying to get a hundred responses or something? I'd hate to think you're really this stupid and bigoted.

Are you kidding me Martin Luther King Jr. Was one of the greatest civil rights leaders in his time and paved the way for African Americans such as myself and other minority class human beings to have normal lives just like everyone else and not be judged by the color of their skin......Thats why he gets a holiday.
