between African Americans and Jewish Americans?
Statistics:
Jewish Americans 1% of Americans, 13% of Senate Seats
African Americans 13% of Americans, 1% of Senate Seats
2 Jewish representatives are Republican, 9 are Democrat, Sanders is a declared Socialist and Lieberman is a declared Independent / Neocon.
Barack Hussein Obama is of course a Democrat.

I would think both groups of Americans (Jewish and African) would have a relative same level of acceptance among the general population with a majority (perhaps 2/3, maybe more) of Americans accepting candidates of either persuasion.
Will African American representation in the US Senate ever catch up to their population? And what role does AIPAC play as far as Jewish representation in the Senate is concerned?
This is a serious question - serious answers only.

If race isn't a factor in elections, why are seats gerrymandered to insure it?

The Senate shall consist of 2 Senators from each state. It is a very important body. It appears that states choose their Representatives based on what they do most for their respective states, not necessarily color or whatever.
I think we need to stay away from ethnic and origin base statistics,do we need a black caucus and a Jewish caucus, what about I'm an American first, than we can be what ever.
I think an APC will be for anything Israel, and lean to approaching those who have a faith based life style.
I think your question should be directed toward the House of Representatives, where district play an important role in equality of representation.

Jewish groups are economically stronger than Black groups as a whole and money talks when it comes to elections. Most Senators are millionaires and unfortunately African Americans are underrepresented in this category beyond Entertainment / Sports.
Jewish people have a great deal of influence in the media / Hollywood and they tend to back their own more than any other group which also plays a role.
I do think AIPAC plays a role in this as they want to expand Israeli influence as much as possible and to them Democrats vs. Republicans do not matter. What matters to AIPAC is Israel First, America Whatever.
I would hope African American representation will increase over the next few decades. Racist pro Clinton backers are not helping the cause of African Americans:

Here is the truth of the matter .
For centuries the Jews have been involved in banking and wealth building .
Blacks have been dancing in the jungle beating on logs and drinking jungle juice .
It takes money to win an election and the base for a black candidates support is poor minority welfare communities . The Jewish base is affluent suburbs , banks ,and insurance companies .
The majority of Jewish folks vote while many blacks do not .
The only blacks elected come from welfare hoods and lately a few have begun to get backing as the welfare hoods land is valuable and long range planners are eyeing the land and the votes of those black leaders are needed .
Its about representing people who have money and so far Blacks have none and it looks like they never will if they keep fighting the system .

It would be nice if we ever got to a point where we didn't have to think about race or religion and just voted for who we believed was the best qualified candidate.
It makes no difference to me whether someone's a christian or a jew, or black, white, red or pink...
Heck, if a candidate came down the turnpike who promised to balance the budget, cut taxes and cut spending and not be such a horrible monkeya$$ then I'd vote for the person.

Because Congress is not an affirmative action compliant body. Next, the people currently in office, get a chance to draw the lines for their constituency, so this helps them stay in power. And finally, there are a lot of prejudice people around that will never vote for a different race.

Because we choose our representatives by who we think would do the best job, not to fill a racial or religious quota.
