Too many variables like screen size, budget, etc.. My site will give you free advice. I prefer HP or Dell the top sellers.

I say go to a major retailer in your area and look at the screen, try the keys, check the weight. Some of the office supply stores have good buys. If you want to see a Dell. go to Walmart. There are some good buys right now on line from Circuit City and Best Buy. There should be back to school sales coming up that will offer a system at a really good price. If they do and you want one, get there early since the quantity is very limited. Definitely consider the extended warranty. Keep a good anti-v irus and spyware scanner on the system. Don't be afraid of Vista, It works well so long as you keep to upgrades loaded. Apples are good but a lot more expensive, harder to get repaired and more expensive for add ons or upgrades.

Hi,

You would be crazy to get anything other than a Mac.
Trouble free, fast, computers with Mac OS (much bettter than Windows, Ubunutu, LINUX, or whatever else you can find).

Apple offers discounts for students (and teachers) and I've put the link below. There are several promotions running now, including getting a $100 rebate on a printer (must be purchased at the same time and on the same invoice as the computer)

and a free iPod Nano with purchase.

I'd get a MacBook. I use a dell laptop, an Hp, and a Mac. I have had zero problems with the mac - and I do a lot of music, etc. My HP is faster, but just not as reliable, and I have had viruses on it before.

Toshiba makes the best laptops. I would highly recommend a Toshiba Satellite M65-S9092.
