Sweet....Da'Burgh is a great place to hang out.
Youll want to be 1 of 2 places (or both).
The South Side. Ask anyone and they will point you there.
And the Strip District. Not named for topless bars (though there are some there).
Either of these areas have the highest concentration of bars, booze and babes Ive ever seen away from the beach.
And both are near Oakland...Pittsburghs college town.
Check out this site. It has EVERY Pittsburgh bar listed and a description and prices and specials and.....well you get the idea.

I am from Pittsburgh and I think that the answers which you have received are fantastic. May I simply give you a bit of advise.
If you plan on talking to girls in the bars and clubs. If you speak as you write you might want to stop ending your sentences with a preposition. "Cool nightlife area in Pittsburgh, PA to stay/hang out? You don't need the at. Many of my girlfriends (I am a Hooters alumni so my friends are beautiful and intelligent) But we have started a new weeding out process and it includes grammar. I know that you will probably give me a negative rating but I just had to say something.
Here are some great web-sites that you can use in order to find events which are happening during your visit.
I hope you have a wonderful time, and please forgive me for the criticism.

Go to the South Side. There's a hotel or two there. The entirety of Carson St. is lined with bars and restaurants. That's where a lot of the younger crowd hangs out. In fact, you can even rent limos and vans that will take you barhopping down there. If you can't get a room at the hotel in the South Side, you can stay in Station Square. It's kinda pricey, as it's where we usually put the tourists, but there are a couple of hotels there and it's only a couple of miles down the road from the good part of Carson St. There are also one or two nightclubs down by Station Square.
Yeah, there are a couple of other places, but I promise you that the South Side is where you guys will want to be.

Station Square would be the best place. There are a lot of bars/clubs, nightlife in that area. Oakland is the college town area and you might enjoy that too.
