I have a Belkin Wireless Adapter that came with software called "Safely Remove Hardware" which I will use if I ever need to but otherwise, I would click on "control panel", bring up "add/remove programs" and find the corresponding software program and uninstall it. Then I would unplug the hardware and that is it!
I am talking about peripherals and not internal components.

if you are removing hardware, which is anything inside the case, you need to unplug the power cord to the back and hit the power button a few times to make sure there is no power going through the motherboard. i dont know exactly why you want to remove hardware though. maybe switch out for something better, but not remove... whatever is changed, the bios should automatically adjust itself to the new settings. if you are planning to tackle this i assume you at least know what you should and should not mess with.
