I am a new comer in Canada, and I'm wondering what is the best path to take. I have only some general knowledge but which to pursue this career in the near future.

The 'traditional' answer was to study Mechanical Engineering at one of the following:

University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI [usa]
University of Detroit in Detroit, MI [usa]
and General Motors Institute in Flint, MI [usa]

that was back when the industry was dominated by the three big companies in Detroit.

However, they seem to have dropped the ball somewhere and now the Japanese motor car companies are leading the world.

I have no idea how you'd go about learning to be an engineer now that they're the leaders -- except that I suspect you'd not do it in either Canada or the US, nor would you learn in English.

Of course, there is no harm in asking the employment office at the nearest auto factory your question. They may have more current advice.
