the pill sadly can have a lot of user error.
For a birth control pill to be the 99% effective: You have to take the pill EVERY DAY at the same time every day. Even though it says you can miss 2-3 pills as long as you "make them up" know that the effective % changes with every pill you miss. My doctor once told me that if you miss 1 day the effectiveness of the pills goes down to 85% if you miss the next day as well the effectiveness goes down to 75%.

I sadly am one person who got pregnant while on the pill. If you are late I suggest taking an at home pregnancy test. They can be bought at almost all supermarkets and drug stores. Taking the pill will not effect your results. If you are late and test negative try again in a couple days...if its still negative go see your doctor. If you test positive, you need to see your doctor right away.

Also keep in mind that Birth Control Pills do not protect against STD's. If you are not in a commited relationship and are not 100% sure that your partner does not have a STD you need to also be using condoms! If you do not want to get pregnant and know that you had un protected sex or had a condom break you can go get the morning after pill (also called Plan B). Most pharmacies can prescribe it to you after you answer some questions about why you think you need it and read a paper on safe sex.

Hope this helps!

No form of birth control is 100% effective except abstinence. I personally know of several women who have gotten pregnant when taking the pill correctly. IUD is more effective then the pill. Add the use of a condom which is a smart move anyway.

yes, i have had a couple of friends get pregnant that were taking the pill. if you miss one and double up, there is a chance, if you miss a pill and just keep on taking them again the next day theres a chance, the pill is not 100% affective.

Yes, it's also possible for women to get pregnant while on the pill if they have to take an antibiotic for any kind of infection.

You sure can! I've known a few people who have gotten pregnant while on The Pill. That's why it's so important to use secondary forms of BC like a condom or diaphram while on The Pill.

Yes, but most birth control pills have a 95% or higher effectiveness rating. Make sure you're following the directions, and if you're worried, use condoms as a backup.

I got pregnant on the pill...and yes I WAS taking them correctly..obviously my dr. had the hormone levels too low..scary thing is they wouldn't change them after I had my son..so I'm still on the same dosage.
Needless to say my husband and I now used a 2nd method (as well as BC)

Dear friend, Someone will get pregnant or a disease if two people of the opposite sex, who are not married, tempt themselves by being alone with one another. You can get support and information at a pregnancy resource center, which you can find by googling optionline, or call 1800afamily. Take good care of yourself and your baby if you are pregnant. Sincerely, Runner

The only thing that is 100% effective is abstinence. Even the pill can be defective. Protect yourself and wait until you are married!
