They are for "state rights" and "traditional" southern values just like the Dixiecrat Party of the past.

I recently asked them if they were for "state rights" or centralized federal power. They all jumped in and proudly claimed to stand for state rights. But when I ask them how can they be for "state rights" and yet claim heritage to northeasten radical / progressive / liberal Republicans like Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, and Nelson Rockefeller, they were speechless.

They all tripped over themselves answering my first question but avoided the second one like the plague.

Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, and Nelson Rockefeller were definitely no "state rights" Republicans. These guys used the power of the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT to:

- free the slaves
- break up corporate monopolies
- protect the environment
- regulate big business
- help the American worker
and
- vote (along with liberal Democrats) to give minorities equal rights.

heavymetal,

I know my facts quite well. If you read my question you would have noticed I said the Southern CONSERVATIVE wing of the Democrat Party was the racist wing. Most of these people have since been voting Republican.

Political parties are dynamic. Are you trying to prove Republicans are racist? Against states rights?

You name for me the statesman of today's Democrat or Republican Party. They all believe in a strong national government.

If any of them are racist they can no longer do it openly.

There are differences between the parties, but they are dramatically different from the old state vs. national government issues, which included salvery. Both parties pander to their base. That's why they're so easily "tripped up", because most of them don't they don't have core values. They moisten their finger and hold it in the air, or they use your money to do a poll.

Go ahead and report me for not answering your question:

What is your obsession with the south and "states rights"? You ask question after question and just reword your talking points. You will give the best answer to one of your little liberal friends no matter how much the right gives facts and support to their answers.

Get over yourself and put some Deo on John Travolta if he sucks so much.

It is, and they vote against their own interests by voting (R).
Southerners get a lot of their political fervor from preachers, who don't spend much time talking peace, justice, caring for the earth, and concern for the poor. Instead, lots of these preachers seem fixated on their favorite "sin," adultery, in all its forms. I guess that attracts an audience, since none of the other commandments is an exciting taboo. It keeps them entertained, feeling superior, and diverts their attention from serious political issues.
