Good answers so far . Just wanna add
I don't smoke myself and don't go to the pub (only for meals out). Have noticed
more people smoking in the street though. I reckon a lot of places will go
out of business.

People always overreact to any change and then guess what, people get used to it, and they move on with their lives.

As for pubs possibly going out of business, why should they be immune to the business fluctuations that other businesses have to put up with? I dont want to see a business go under either but I wouldnt put a pub landlord say above Mr Achmed running his corner store and going under because Tesco's moves in next door.

Pubs have been a terrible investment for a while now, but there is still that romantic aura about being a pub landlord. You just have to be prepared for the financial reality of it as well.

In any case, Im going off tangent here, so to get it back on track and address your question, I think you'll find after a while, takings will stable out. I for one dont smoke and am quite happy to now sit in a smoke free atmosphere. Its brilliant.

Before the smoking ban the drunks stayed in the pub...just wait until they ban people smoking in beer gardens because of the noise...can you imagine 30 smokers outside a busy pub on a friday night...and the noise...better to keep them inside I say...

yep still going to the pub - it makes me smoke less coz I cant be bothered to leave a club/pub to go outside just for a smoke. however, i think its really intimidating if you're walking past a pub, even through the day, and there are loads of drunk people outside smoking. Its alot nicer in pubs with no smoke, but in a club u realise how much people pass wind with beer and how much they sweat with dancing - YUCK!!!

I've never smoked, but alot of my friends do. It's so annoying to go out with them now because they're constantly having to go in and out all the time to smoke. It's getting so that they don't have as much fun going out to a bar or pub. It has definitely affected our social lives in a negative way. I think they should have allowed smoking in bars, just not in other public places. Can't we at least have some places to let loose a little, or must we be perfect little robots at all times? It's annoying.

Not sure, but, now if we can ban the Cell Phones from public (The Brain Damage they cause, read the first 3 pages of the manual) and women putting on makeup driving down the road, everything be cool then. But, Hypocrites only want to ban the things they not use, huh?

Pubs, bowling allys & many other establishments have went out of business sense THE ban. Another social engineering stunt went amiss at other peoples cost. Won't be the last one either!
