I've been with my boyfriend for 3 years online, we're planning to meet soon. I'd call that a success. =)
if you google it, there's a lot of websites that couples have made dedicated to their story. They've met online, met in real life and then got married and moved together. So it's possible, it has problems and also benefits just like any other couple.
There's forums and all sorts of things for people who have online relationships. A lot are successful, some aren't, just like all other relationships.
If anything, online, you're forced to get to know each other well because you can't do anything physical, so you become closer which means the relationship is a lot stronger, and when you finally meet you value it and it's the final piece in place.
To the person who said you can't communicate online and you only get 10% or whatever, they must be a technophone - try looking up webcam and microphone. Me and my boyfriend use them a lot of the time and we always catch each other making faces or smiling at each other, and we can see when we make each other laugh. We talk with microphones and also on our nintendo ds's over wifi. We don't have any communication problems.

I've met 3 people online. The first, we ended up being in a relationship for almost 3 1/2 years. He was my first love. I then met another man. That was shorter, about 4 almost 5 months. He ended up being some sort of psycho, I'm now thinking about getting a restraining order. Then, there's my current boyfriend. We didn't hit it off right away, but as we continued to talk, it grew into something good. And we've been together for 5 months, and known each othher for 7 months. It's been going good so far. I didn't let that crazy incident discourage me. And I'm glad that I didn't because I wouldn't have gotten the chance to get to know my current BF. He's great, I love him, and online dating isn't terrible. There are psychos out there, but the same goes for somebody that you might meet in person.

It is my opinion that you cannot have a successful relationship with a computer. Although there is a person on the other end, it's like trying to have a meaningful relationship with a telephone. You leave much to be desired. Remember that only 10% of communication with one another is the words we say. The other 90% are the non-verbal things that we do without thinking about it; body language, the inflection in your voice, the sound of your voice, a million and one other things that communicate what you're trying to say. Communication is the MOST important part of a relationship. How can you have a successful relationship if you're only getting 10% of the message?
Ahdrianna, once again, you're still only getting part of the message. There are a ton of nonverbal communicators that you really need to be face to face to pick up on.

I have met many women on the Internet and chatted for hours with them. Some of them I have met and some of them I have dated.
Right now I am dating a woman I met on craigslist.com
I think I've been very successful at cyber-dating but I got to know them first before and actual date.

I can't speak for myself, but my mom and step-dad meet online. Not from an online dating service, but in a christian chat room. They talked for about 4 months, met twice-and decided they were meant for eachother and got married. I decided to up and move with my mom from Nevada all the way to Jersey....they're still happily married. They're cute together, and my mom has never been happier.....that was 9 years ago.
