Alright here's what has been going on. A few days ago I noticed the my explorer (v6 4wd) was kind of hicupping??? I don't know how to explain it. It thought it was that it was just up there in miles and I was driving with the ac on. Then yesterday someone cut me off... i had to stop quickly and when i started to go yesterday there were very clear hesitation like it was jerking. I decided to head to my moms house to see what was wrong on the way it was like it was hicupping and rickety the whole thing seem to be vibrating like an old truck... I don't know how to explain it really. It wasn't accelerating right and seemed to be loosing power. My stepdad took it for a ride and of course i looked like a loon cause it didn't do it again. I took it to auto zone and said it needed a tune up (new plugs and wires specifically) which honestly I haven't done in over two years. I bought that and my step dad started on it. two of the plugs are seized and he can't get them out

I'm going to drop it to a mech. tommorow... I want to know if you think my car is blowing up? I need it to last me through school...what are my hopes here>

how difficult is it to get out the two stuck plugs one in the front one in the back. am I looking at a hefty repair bill here? can I drive it to the mechanic like this? what else could be wrong with it if not the spark plugs and wires causing the problem in the first place

One of the reasons there are mechanics.

If the plugs seized as he was taking them out, spray some liquid wrench down along the spark plugs. You may have to spray, wait 15 minutes and spray again. (Repeat as necessary). The oil will work its way down, and you should be able to get the plug out.

If he cross threaded them when he was installing them, then you're looking at a big headache. They might be fixable with a helicoil, but definitely not a job for your step father.

Hi Kathy, sorry your having issues... I would DEFINITELY start with the inertia switch. On my expedition its located in the rear quarter panel under a little latched cover in the rear luggage area, usually on the drivers side, but can be either or. Is usually a red button, if it is popped out, simply press it and try to start up.. If that doesn't work, I would start with fuel pressure.. You can go to Auto Zone and rent the tool you need. Once you bring it back all together and in same shape I think they still give you 100% of the fee back. But you'll connect the tool to the fuel line using access ports, it plugs in.. Go turn the key to the on position and have someone watch the gauge for the working pressure. The pressure relay switch on the car will only keep the pump engaged for a few seconds, though the tester should hold the pressure, I would have someone there to watch it when you cycle the key to the on position.. Make sure to turn to the "on" position and NOT "Start"... If that passes, you can bring that tool back and last thin to check would be spark. You should be able to rent a tester tool for that as well, or as mentioned in another answer, you can use a spare sparkplug, but because it shows a spark this way doesn't necessarily mean that the coil pack is okay. A tester will actually give you a number as to the strength on the spark. My guess you should have found the issue by now... Or at least the main reason.. Then you have to contend with whether the issue is a bad coil, plug, fuel pump, etc.. or a bad sensor, or Modul. If you did all of the following tests and they all passed, or if they didn't pass I would say it would be worth your while to rent a hand held scan tool, and scan your vehicle for any trouble codes.. Hope this helps...

That hicuping is called a misfire. What usually causes it IS the wires or some times bad plugs. Get them changed. If he put the wires on wrong then you could get major damage to your car. The smell is probably unburnt fuel. Get the tuneup done by a professional. Sounds like your step dad don't know what he's doing.

well, it could be doing it worse now because the spark plugs arent gapped right. check your transmission fluid too. if its down low then it can make your car shutter and jerk.make sure you get the right wires too. did your step dad take the plugs out one by one or did he take off all the spark plug wires at once and then take out the plugs? cause having teh wrong wire on the wrong plug can cause hesitation and that smell too. good luck! hope this helps!

Cars don't blow up. There is a problem with the engine that the mechanic can diagnois for you. Wait for his diagnosis and disregard most of what you will be told on here.
