because the Bush family is friendly with the Bin Laden family.
Why do you think we backed away so quickly and turned our focus to Iraq when he was cornered?

There is no such thing as an infallible intelligence network. I worked in military intelligence (UK) and although we had some of the best field agents, analysts (my job), local sources (informants) and technology, we could not possible know everything and often got it wrong. This is the way it is.
The most valuable tool in intelligence is your local source. But it is also your least reliable. The key is to trust but verify. Sometimes people will give information simply because they get paid, others will inform on an enemy and others will deliberately give false information to lead you to a dead end or expose your surveillance network. Where terrorists and other ideologically driven zealots are concerned, the process of intelligence gathering is even more complicated. All of the leads you get have to be followed even when your gut tells you that they may be worthless. Sometimes you disregard a valid lead and miss an opportunity. C’est la vie!
I’ve been in the private sector for several years now but I am certain that these are among the reasons Bin Laden and several other high profile targets have eluded capture.

Finding Bin Laden is a little more difficult than walking around asking people on the street if they've seen the guy in the picture. If he's sitting in a cave somewhere then people may truely not know where he is except for a few of his closest advisors.
As far as Bush not wanting to find him because of his relationship with the rest of the family that doesn't make sense. The rest of the Bin Laden family has denounced Osama. The faimly was allowed to leave the country because it was felt that there was an imediate threat to their lives just because of their name.

It's not really that good. Remember these are the people that said there were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq and who ignored the warning signs for the 9/11 attacks. Bin Laden is holed up in an area of Pakistan where we have no sources of information and where everyone we've attempted to slip in has been murdered. The government of Pakistan is trying to help, but so many of their own citizens support Bin Laden that the government is in danger of falling any day.

we know where he is. we can't waltz into eastern pakistan and pull him out.
he's in an area with millions of people that love and support him. we would risk a war with pakistan and or destablizing that country that has nukes.
the fbi couldn't find eric rudolph for 5-7 years? something rediculous....let alone someone in a foreign nation protected by millions of terrorists...errr supporters.
clinton should have accepted sudan's offer to expedite him in '96. but billy said he hadn't committed a crime so we shouldn't do that to him. ooops. another clinton bungle that may have saved lives.
yeah raxius! Loose the oil fields! go back to 2nd grade!!! comedy.

Because they don't want to. There are hardly any resources allocated to searching for Osama Bin Laden. As long as he is out there the US Government can justify the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

What is really funny is that on the FBI Most Wanted List, he is listed as "Usama" Bin Laden -- not "Osama." Maybe we can't find him because Bush does not want us to find him. After all -- Bin Laden's family is close friends with George Bush Sr. They were with him on 9-11, and then they got to fly out of the country, when no other planes were allowed to fly. Explain that!

You must not understand how difficult it is to find a single person in unfriendly territory with all of the mountains and hiding places...it doesn't matter how good your intelligence is in some cases.

well, intelligence clearly isn't that good... see WMD in Iraq...
but the other issue is... they are much more concerned about Iraq than about Osama... even though they keep saying Osama/al-queda is destabilizing Iraq... it looks like they would want to take him out to help stabilize Iraq if nothing else... not to mention 9-11...
