13 yr. olds don't need to "diet" in the classic sense of the word. You need to eat healthy foods, drink plenty of clear liquids and be active. Cutting too many calories can leave you too hungry and cause you to eat more than before. Think of food as fuel for your body. Your body must have enough food (fuel) for energy. Learn to listen to your body and give it what it needs. Also, never tell yourself you can't have a certain food, this will only increase the desire and temptation and you'll end up overindulging. Have a candy bar or a favorite treat; just do it once or twice a week. Think about it as a reward for eating well and staying active during the week. You'll be glad when you're older if you don't immediately gratify every craving when you're young.
A good rule of thumb for portions is that a serving should be no larger than the palm area of your hand. I keep my portions down by serving food onto salad plates instead of dinner plates. This tricks the eye when it sees a full plate, and gives a better sense of satisfaction than seeing empty spaces on a full sized dinner plate. (I included a neat link to help you think about portion sizes.)
If you're concerned that you may be overweight, check out the Body Mass Index calculator for kids. The link below is straight from the gov. and it takes into account several variables such as height, age, and weight. It will tell you if you're weight is healthy or not. There is also a test that can be done at a gym that measures your fat. This test in combination with the BMI will help you determine if you have a healthy amount of fat.
With all that being said, just remember not to starve yourself. In the long run, you'll be happy you took good care of your body.

At 13, your body is still going through a lot of changes. You'll go through stages as well, where you may gain a bit of weight, then stretch out a bit, then gain a little weight, then stretch out a bit.
As for dieting at your age, the best kind of diet is not drastically cutting back on how much you eat. But, for example, if you're at Chilis (love Chilis) don't get the loaded mashed potatoes. Get veggies! Look for items such as their Lettuce Wraps (love those) or their salads. Feel free to eat the whole thing! Vegetables won't make you gain weight. You can eat your fill, with little to no fat or calories. Still let yourself enjoy food:) Just try to replace carbs and fat with fruits and veggies! It can become a very enjoyable diet:)

well, to be honest, the best way to deal with this problem, and to get your whole family on the same page, would be for you to ask your mom to make a doctor's appointment for you, and for her to accompany you there. this way, she can be satisfied that you are healthy. and you can voice your concerns about what you feel is overweight to your doctor, and both of you get answers which you can live with.
i'm a little concerned that you claim that a small amount of soda made you 'hyper' later in the day. that's you being very sensitive to caffeine and/or sugar. mention this to the doctor, as well, though to be honest, if you are going to do something like 'dieting' it would be better for you to eat normal foods, in normal amounts, and lay off the junk food - no soda, no candy, no cookies, no cakes, no chips, no fries, ... get the picture?
and, just one more thought... since your aunt mentioned that your feet are largish, and you don't mention height or weight, think on this.... you are still growing, and frequently just before a growth spurt, kids will get a little 'pudge' which then redistributes, as they get taller. i strongly suspect that is what's happening. lose the diet, please.

More information is needed such as height and weight. Your food intake is not indicative of anorexia but your overall health and dietary habits are. You are 13 and you should remember that growing bodies need good nutrition. A car can't run on a empty gas tank...neither can you!! Make sure the "gas" you use is premium though.

It sounds like you are. Just be focused on being healthy. If you really want to loose weight then dont stop eating just eat more healthy, drink more water instead of sodas and juices and try a little excercise. What your doing is not good for you.

Honey, you should not be dieting at 13. you are still growing and i have seen so many kids grow so tall and lose all their 'puppy fat' and become very slim. It happened to my younger sister and my bf's brother. Do not diet, just enjoy being a 13 year old. if you are worried dont reduce your overall intake of food, just change what you eat. instead of crisps, chocolate and sweets, eat vegetables, fruit and drink plenty of water.

Never start a diet on your own--always talk to your doctor--and really, don't worry about your weight. Think of it this way: Your body is too busy with growning and puberty right now to worry about how it looks. Don't worry about your shape for a few years, unless your doctor says otherwise.

your probably not anorexic yet. i think instead of cutting back on food you should just choose to eat healthier and be happy about your body.. trust me fat or skinny your not going to be satisfied if you keep thinking like that. people are always going to think your too fat or too skinny, you have to learn to be happy with who you are and healthy of course.
