Standard tipping is no longer 15-20% for good service. It starts at 18%. But you're not doing too badly, but don't be afraid to throw in an extra dollar or two.

Okay. I haven't served in a few years, but when I was serving it was my main source of income. I had to support my family on the money that I was bringing home. So let me just give you a scenario:

Server schedules are usually only 4 days a week, 5 if you're lucky, with 5-6 hour shifts. So, let's say on an average week I would work 4, 6 hour nights. So thats 24 hours. Server hourly pay is only $3.13 an hour. So that would make my paycheck for that week $75.

Now when you think about the way restaurants work... there are usually too many servers on for the rate of business. And servers end up with small sections and less tables. Less tables mean less tips and then you guessed it... less money!!

Now, I'm not saying that you should base your tipping soley on the fact that servers have it rough, but its something to consider when you do have really great service.

Trust me, I more that anybody, absolutely HATE when I ha*ve poor service. And I drive my boyfriend crazy whenever we go out to eat because I analyze and criticize everything my servers do wrong. And as sad as it makes me, I DO believe that a server should WORD for a good tip and I will not hesitate to throw $1 on the table with a written note. It pains me because that would have CRUSHED me as a server... although I would have never treated a table poorly. I had a system! lol

Now on the other hand I believe that exceptional service should be rewarded accordingly. ONE TIMEC and only one time I tipped a server 35%... that was the best service I ever had...

For an average server ... usually 20%. =/-

Hope that helps!!

Since my wife is a server, I might be a bad one to answer this, but I usually tip at least 15% if the sever was competent.

I've been known on occasion to tip up to 30% if the server was exceptional.

You have to realize that servers generally are required to pay taxes based on tips of 10% of their sales, so a 10% tip is basically a 7% tip.

Come on, an extra 5% won't kill ya.

I have noticed that if i tip well, and get the same server the next time, the service is off the charts.so if you want that kind of service, tip well, and revisit ;-)

I work as a server and I never tip less than 20% for good service. When I serve I get anywhere from 15% to 30-35% on each check. I think you are right on par with the general public though. Just remember you server makes half the minimum wage and they work for tips not hourly.

Yes you are. I know someone who is very tip-oriented and she never tips less than 15%. If she brings in a group of kids who are sloppy eaters she never tips less than 20%.

When she works as a Secret Shopper in restaurants she doesn't tip even a bad server less than 15%. However when she writes up the report on that restaurant she is very explicit in pointing out the specific flaws of that server. She knows that any server with a bad rating on all the specifics (like good attitude, good menu knowledge, attentive service, fast order pickup, frequent beverage topoffs, fast check delivery, etc) is going to get reamed out for their faults and is probably not long for that job.

your a good tipper.

wow i remember i had the WORST waitress ever in my life 2 weeks ago. this was at a casino restaurant also at atlantic city. so the waitress was giving us an attitude and when she went to other guests she was being nice/polite. she didnt even check on us. the busboy was basically doing all the work. she made him get us our bread that we had to ask for, meanwhile the other tables she was handling she gave them the bread w/o them asking. the busboy did basically everything. we tipped him privately and gave him $5 and gave the waitress $2. our bill came out at 100 something dollars. if you think this is mean, then if you were in my place you would be infuriated. also. my parents have the highest card that a casino can give, its the premium card, and this kind of service is unacceptable since its in a casino.

No. You're an above average tipper.

The general rule for good service is 15%.

Those who give so so or bad service still get 10%? That's above average! Many people wouldn't tip at all for bad service.

20% tip for great service is also above average. Many people only give the 15%.

You would definitely be considered a good tipper.

Actually you sound like an average tipper. 10% is the usual tip from my experience.

I usually tip 20% (I was a waiter for a good while).

Depends on their service though :). If they have a bad attitude, suckie service, they get 10%.

properly, i'm a server, so I somewhat have needless to say experienced all of it, a minimum of 10 could have been ok, 20 is outstanding although. yet i believe the others that have responded so a procedures, they have needless to say never worked this way of interest before. What numerous human beings do no longer' understand is that numerous servers ought to tip out, meaning that an area of the information we get carry of ought to flow to different coworkers interior the eating place, usually a minimum of the bartender. whilst clients do no longer tip adequate, then we the two do no longer make very lots or somewhat ought to pay out of our pocket, to cover this. And we purely make 2.13 an hour numerous the time as quickly as we do this besides. it truly is area of the entire industries ploy to earn greater funds i think of. So if human beings have a topic with the money they spend at a eating place, they ought to evaluate complaining to the eating place no longer punish the server. 14

That's pretty good. Usually pretty close to what I give.

I take it a step further...if my service was poor, I leave a written tip along the lines of "It's not a good thing to leave a customer waiting to order for 20 minutes as you walk by time and time again. You also did not check if things were okay, or if we needed any additional service. Customer service is something you should pride yourself in. If you can't do that, then why be a server? My tip to you is to pay attention to customers' needs and try to meet them. Only then will you deserve extra money."
