They always tell you what to go to school for and what majors pay the most money. What really erks me the most is when they say if I could do it all over again I would but I always think you had to be my age to get to your age.

what do you guys think of this?

i thought this answer was pretty obvious. but i guess not. it's because of jealousy. your intellect intimidates them. i guess they feel that you are superior to them so they try to cover up that fear by hate.
it's okay, at least you have a degree and can make a living. why would you care what they think anyway? c'mon you're better than that... associate yourself with other college grads.

I am very confused about what you're trying to ask. But if I understand, then let me say this:

The most unhappy person you'll ever meet is someone who went to college for years...then never graduated. If they don't finish up that degree, they've wasted loads of time and some serious $$$.

On the other hand, you get a lot more from college than just a degree. A LOT more. As for the comments (above) about History (and other) degrees being worthless; well, the CIA disagrees (they hire LOTS of history majors). Law schools also disagree since a history degree is the most common "ticket" into Law schools...next to (you guessed it!) philosophy and Political science, followed by psychology.

Oh, and 30 years ago, it was just as common to go to college as it is now. The only difference is that there are more women in college, more computer classes, and even more Chinese.

Definitely GO to college. The naysayers have their own problems and are just venting their frustrations on the world here in Yahoo!Answers. You go to college for the knowledge and the step up in life that it will give you. There are no promises about making lots of money...but you'll be better off than someone who only has a HS diploma.

Sometimes book people don't have the people skills and intuition. The one thing they teach in college for sure is a sense of superiority, I noticed that in myself as the main product. Actuallly I think you can learn more on the net, more recent, more accurate and more quickly. I would say that science is not a collection of facts or dogmas, but a method of open mindedness and looking at the facts without judgment and testing what you see/think about them. Teaching is understanding the student first, going where they are and then taking them where they want to go. That is listening is so key in life to 'get' someone else and their inner value. Psychology is being well balanced, or that's all I got out of it as a course. There's so much more on the net. School teaches your what to think, more than how to think. My son started as a file clerk and was only enrolled in a computer major and is still getting six figures. Many millionaires never went to school and some can't even read.

I think you are referrring to more of a generation gap issue than "uneducated" people. If you go back 30 or 40 years, it wasn't very common for people to go to college. You could get jobs that today you need a degree to even be considered for. To be quite honest, how many people actually get work in their field with a philosophy degree? or history? There are not a huge variety of options for people in these fields and older, WISER people see the impracticality of majoring in such a field. Even people with useful degrees don't always work in their field. I could not find a job with a BBA(in Management concentrating in Human Resources), which I thought was a great field to be in. Now, I am pursuing a MEd in elementary education.

I do not feel that "uneducated people" HATE on the educated. I think they either have regrets, or did not have the advantages of people today. Maybe their frustrations are bothersome when they vent, but all in all, I think they are jealous.

Simple answer-they are jealous. Not every person has the financial means to get to college. And, it wasn't always considered the minimum educational goal.

American society, as a rule, is anti-intellectual. and then, some educated people think they are better than those without formal education.
