I think trying to make moral judgements about a war while you're fighting it is a fine way to lose that war.

I think it was only a matter of time before the U.S would have been drawn to war. It is good Military strategy to attack first, and not wait to be attacked. A simpler analogy would be that it in a fight it is better to land the first punch than to receive the first punch, which could be a knock out punch.
