"We Didn't Start The Fire is NOT so much about history as a whole, but about HIS life and the things that had happened since his birth. He says that he tried to pick things that were important to HIM, but that the beginning of the song was simply created when he asked himself who the President was at the time of his birth... Harry Truman... and who a famous acress was... Doris Day." - Fletch699

we didnt start the fire means what ever can happen will happen. For instance say a man saw a campfire in the woods and than a minute later that fire spread throughout the wrole woods.. That fire isnt his fault . Its natures . So In the song We didnt start the fire a part goes IT WAS ALWAYS BURNING SINCE THE WORLDS BEEN TURNING is the same. Which means the fire will keep going until somebody stops it and it doesnt mean they started it ..

It's kind of a history lesson in song, reliving famous historical moments and people that were important to him.

We didn't start the fire is a way of saying, we didn't mess up the world, it was messed up before we got here.

The song is about all the bad things that happened in the twentieth century. It explains that these events have been building up for thousands of years, and exploded during the twentieth century.

Plus it's a really great song!

I think there were people who blamed his generation, the baby boomers, for a lot the problems in the world. He was saying they "didn't start the fire."
