as more republicans wisely jump ship, tony snow comes on and says the surge just got started 3 weeks ago and needs more time to access. If the surge was approved and planned in feb 2007 why are the troops just getting there. what did they send them by rowboats! Such an incompetent commander in chief is never going to win. when will you get that

Right. It's been mishandled. Was anyone surprised by that? I think even John McCain had to be skeptical about whether it would have worked, because anyone with any sense knew that the chances of this being mishandled were probably pretty high.

Honestly, in the early stages, it's possible that a surge would have helped. One of the great debacles of this war was how Bush went about it assuming it would be a cakewalk. War is NEVER EASY!!!! If they'd gone in with a full understanding of how difficult it might have been, perhaps we would have started with more troops. Of course, if we'd realized from the start how difficult it would be, maybe we'd have just left things alone. The hubris of this administration is overwhelming, and the devastation they have wrought is pitiful.

If you're confused then you need to pay more attention. It was clearly stated at the beginning of the surge that it would take four or five months to fully implemement.

That said, I do not disagree that Bush is incompetent. But, really, those who hate him so vehemently seem utterly incapable of cutting him any break in regard to reality. Often, the standards they judge him by are completely ridiculous.

Will the surge work? I doubt it. But that's mostly because the Iraqis are not doing anything to help...and that is why some Republicans are losing confidence in our strategy. Of course, if you had paid attention to what they were saying, you would have known that too.

The 'surge' is a modest increase in the number of troops that peaked 3 weeks ago, and will last through, IIRC, September, when we will get a report on how badly it's failed.

I know that 'people are dying in Iraq every day,' and how important it is that those deaths become Iraqi-only as quickly as possilbe. But, can't you wait another couple months to do your vicotry dance?

You think moving troops is easy do you? I think it is in the best interest of this nation to give the surge time to work. Just because you are ignorant and do not understand troop movements it does not mean there have been any problems. Your type of ignorance will get American soldiers kills and possibly Americans too.

The progress report was scheduled for the fall, not July. Why are you in such a hurry, think progress might be made?
