My last name is the name of a very famous city in Australia and I am constantly asked if I'm from there. I'm not, I'm an American.
I was just wondering if anyone else had a city for a last name or any other confusing last name? What crazy things do you get asked?

Just so you know, Penny Lane is not my real name. I'm a big Beatles fan and a movie buff (Almost Famous, anyone), so I chose it for my screen name.

Not my last name but my first name is a very common and popular name but has a unique spelling so no matter where I go or what I do, people will ALWAYS misspell it. I can write it on any form, and when its copied into a computer system, it's always copied wrong. I can't get a name tag, membership card, letter, prescription, etc. without my name being misspelled and it 's the most frustrating thing in the world to me.
The only difference in my name and the common spelling is that mine lacks one letter. That's it. It's not like its all crazy or whacky and it's frustrating to me that when I apply for something, the confirmation is always spelled wrong. Do people really think that I'm in my 30's and have misspelled my own name that they need to correct it??
I wish people would pay more attention to details. This happens to me way too often and has now bordered on the ridiculous in how much it happens.

My last name is Lichtenfeld, it's very weird. It's pronounced lick-ten-feld(like fell w/ a d added to it. It's easy to tell if telemarketers are calling, lol. I hate it at school when teachers or substitute teachers mispronounce my last name. People have made weird little phrases for my last name too. It's annoying, but I'd rather have my last name than a more common one, cause mines not common and I like to be different.

yes...and I love it...especially when I would get called for an interview...I can't tell you how shocked some people would look to see a Black and Cuban chick come through the door. I would just give them a firm handshake and laugh like crazy after....You can't judge some some by their name...Ha Ha

I have a name that is simple and easy to pronounce and spell... but it is a rare name and sounds similar to some other names, so people constantly mispronounce and spell it. It is like they are surprised it is so simple and they automatically complicate it.

I have a really pretty girly last name and they always ask which is my first name or when they ask for my last name and I tell them, they say "NO, I need your last name, not first name."
It is pretty annoying
